What is Noise Pollution?

• Sound is essential to our daily lives,
  but noise is not.
• Noise is an unwanted sound, or a sound which
  produces unpleasant effects.
• Not all noise can be called noise pollution.
• If it does not happen regularly, it may be termed
  as 'Nuisance.

It effects animals, too.

• Scientists believe that its not only humans who
  are affected.
• Example
• Water animals are subjected to noise by
  submarines and big ships
• chain-saw operations by timber companies also
  create extreme noise to animals in the forests

Noise pollution in our school

• We measured noise multiple times in our school
  using sound level meter
• We measured sound in three places. This is the
  average number of decibels
• School canteen 91 dB
• School Hall 87 dB
• The classrooms near the road 88 dB
• Some are above the recommended decibels a human
  should be exposed to 8h a day.

What we did to prevent it

• We padded the doors so they would be sound proof
  in the music and history classrooms
• In the other classrooms we hanged signs that say
  to keep it down.

How to prevent noise?

• Construction of soundproof rooms for noisy
  machines in industrial and manufacturing
  installations.
• Use of horns with jarring sounds, motorbikes with
  damaged exhaust pipes, noisy trucks are to be
  banned.
• Airports, bus and transport terminals and railway
  stations should be sighted far from living places.
