  • Scope
  • This subchapter shall apply to matters relating
    to indoor air quality in buildings occupied by
    public employees during regular work hours.

  • Definitions (selected)
  • "Designated person" means a person who has been
    given the responsibility by the employer to take
    necessary measures to assure compliance with this
    subchapter.
  • Office building means a building in which
    administrative, clerical, or educational
    activities are conducted. Examples of facilities
    and/or operations, which are not office
    buildings, include schools, repair shops,
    garages, print shops and warehouses.

  • Definitions (selected)
  • "HVAC system" means the collective components of
    the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning
    system including, but not limited to, filters and
    frames, cooling coil condensate drip pans and
    drainage piping, outside air dampers and
    actuators, humidifiers, air distribution
    ductwork, automatic temperature controls, and
    cooling towers.
  • "Renovation and remodeling" means building
    modification involving activities that include
    but are not limited to removal or replacement of
    walls, roofing, ceilings, floors, carpet, and
    components such as moldings, cabinets, doors, and
    windows painting decorating demolition
    surface refinishing and removal or cleaning of
    ventilation ducts.

  • Definitions (selected)
  • Sick Building Syndrome means a workplace
    characterized by a substantial number of building
    occupants experiencing health and comfort
    problems that can be related to working indoors.
    Additionally the reported symptoms do not fit the
    pattern of any particular illness, are difficult
    to trace to any specific source and relief from
    these symptoms occurs upon leaving the building.

  • Establish and follow a preventative maintenance
    schedule
  • Ensure that damaged or inoperable components are
    replaced or repaired promptly, ensure no
    microbial growth

    ventilation
  • Check the HVAC system when carbon dioxide levels
    exceed 1,000 ppm

    be maintained for custodians at night?
  • A Yes. Regular work hours are defined by the
    employer. Temp range is not a requirement as long
    as the system is operating as designed.

    that we have 800 CFU/m3 of Cladosporium in our
    building. Should we condemn the building?
  • A Ask your consultant. The standard for mold is
    visible. Conduct thorough visual inspection.
    Remediating visible mold in accordance with
    industry (EPA, PEOSH) guidelines.

  • Q Do we need a separate IAQ written program at
    each building?
  • A No. An overall program is acceptable, but
    should be available at and include each building.

  • A PEOSH issues per diem penalties for violations
    that are not abated within the specified
    abatement period. Penalties are based on several
    factors incl. size, history, seriousness. Min
    100/day.
