Meteorology
  • Study of the atmosphere and its phenomena
  • The term meteorology originates from the Greek
philosopher Aristotle in about 340 B.C. when he
wrote a book on natural philosophy called
    Meteorologica
  • With the development of instruments such as the
thermometer (late 1500s), barometer (1643) and
hygrometer (late 1700s), meteorology as a true
    science began to develop
  • Modern advances in communication, observation,
and computers have contributed significantly to
advancing the science of meteorology over the
    past 50 years
