Procedure for UMTS. IEEE Journal on Selected

The proposed procedure removes the redundant
steps in GPRS and IMS authentication.

At the IMS level, authentication is implicitly
performed in IMS registration procedure, and the
network traffic is saved up

to 50.
A solution for integrating UMTS and WLAN.

A loosely-coupled architecture that satisfies the
Scenario 3 features in the 3GPP TS 22.934

UMTS mechanisms are re-used for WLAN
authentication and access control without
modifying the existing UMTS components.

After the MS leaves one SGSN area, the SGSN
stores the unused AVs for a Reservation Timeout
(RT) period for the MSs next visit.

Open Service Access (OSA) provides an unified
service creation and execution environment which
is independent from the underlying mobile network.

A long RT period results in fewer accesses to the
HSS/AuC at the cost of extra AV storage in the
SGSN.

Push to Talk over Cellular (PoC) service provides
a
walkie-talkie like service in the cellular
communication infrastructure.
