expect to receive credit if you have missed more
    than three days per semester

5
Late Work
  • No late work is accepted. If you are to be absent
when an assignment is due, please make
arrangements to have your work sent to school

6
Make up Work.
  • For the most part, this should not be a problem
since students should be in attendance
  • Make-up work, if approved, will be given only
    after school
  • No test will be the same as the one given in class

FOR MORE INFO...
  • See West Virginia State College catalogue

7
Class Work
  • All themes must be computer generated
  • plan on producing a portfolio of corrected papers
by the end of the semester
  • Graded and corrected hard copies of themes should
    be kept in folders
  • you will be returning these to me
  • All written work turned in during the class
    should be a blue/black pen
  • remember to keep a pencil for the rare scantron

8
Notebook

devoted exclusively to English. See below for
    divisions.

Note-taking

is not optional or a matter of personal
    preference
  • All material for tests originate from assignment
    or notes in class
  • Notebooks may be checked at the end of each nine

    difference in a marginal grade

    college transcript

Want an A or B?
  • Come to class, be attentive, take notes, check
    your calendar daily
  • never take a zero on any assignment-- large or
    small
  • study for tests and quizzes. Much of what we do
is memorization-- if you study, its a sure A

19
Still want the A-- break 90
  • Really read your books. Theyre chosen to make
you culturally literate. The tests are designed
for those who read the books, not the Cliff notes
  • Be organized
  • Quickly get accustomed to the concept of global
revision of papers- dont whine, just do it

20
A or B? break 80 for a B
  • Dont waste time complaining
  • Break away from the idea of good enough
Striving for mediocrity is not a suitable goal
  • Dont wait to the last moment to complete
    assignments
  • Organize a study group
