an instrument that shows the parallelism
between the stumps abutment teeth in the
application of fixed prostheses.
4
THE OBJECT
  • To have a tool easy to handle.
  • To be sure of preparing perfectly parallel
    stumps.
  • To spare the patient further sessions necessary
    to retouch the abutment teeth.
  • To have fixed prostheses which fit perfectly and
    seal at first trial.

5
THE ADVANTAGES
FOR THE DENTIST
FOR THE DENTAL TECHNICIAN
  • To feel quieter during the prosthetic
rehabilitation, even if they are complex and
    extended.
  • Not to trust on ones own eyes in order to see
the parallelism between the stumps, especially if
they are distant from each other.
  • To be able to make wax patterns which dont
distort when they are taken off from the stone
    cast.

6
THE MINI-PARALLELOMETER
CHARACTERISTICS
  • It is an instrument for verifying the parallelism
between the stumps. It is made of TITANIUM ASTM
F136 grade 5 so it is sterilizable. It is
composed of two legs, whose length is such that
they can achieve all the dental elements that
have to be prepared. But, on the whole, it is so
little that it can be easily inserted into the
    oral cavity.

7
THE MINI-PARALLELOMETER
CHARACTERISTICS
  • The ends of these legs are endowed with two
pivots, whose function is that of showing actual
    parallelism between the abutment teeth.
  • Whatever position the mini-parallelometer
assumes, the two legs will always be parallel.

8
THE MINI-PARALLELOMETER
CHARACTERISTICS
  • The legs of the instruments are endowed with
growes, within which a screw slides.
  • This screw can lock the Parallelometer and/or
change the position of the pivots.

USE AND APPLICATIONS
It is particularly useful
  • When the stumps are distant from each other.
  • When the remaining abutment teeth have migrated
and, consequently, assumed an inclination that is
difficult to be covered with prostheses.
  • In complete prosthetic rehabilitations.

10
USE AND APPLICATIONS
  • It is common knowledge that molars are inclined
towards the outside, therefore they tend to
    diverge from each other.
  • Compare to incisors, molars are inclined towards
the posteriors part of the oral cavity.

UPPER ARCH
11
USE AND APPLICATIONS
  • Thanks to this parallelometer, it is possible to
find out the discrepancy of axes among the
various elements to be covered with prostheses,
and, therefore, to accomplish a prosthetic
    rehabilitation that is apparently complex.

UPPER ARCH
12
USE AND APPLICATIONS
LOWER ARCH
  • Inferior molar are nearly always inclined towards
the median line of the face. For this reason they
prevent the vertical insertion of the prosthetic
    instruments.

13
USE AND APPLICATIONS
LOWER ARCH
  • We can notice the undercut between these abutment
teeth. It is the consequence of their movement,
due to the lack of elements

14
USE AND APPLICATIONS
LOWER ARCH
  • With a simple act, bringing the parallel pivots
closer to each other, it is possible to create an
axis of insertion. In this way, there is no
problem in the construction of the prosthetic
    bridge.

15
The extent of the discrepancy is found out
16
prepared stumps. They are perfectly parallel!
17
RESOLUTION OF THE PROBLEMS
  • The disparallelism between the stumps is a
    long-standing question.
  • Unfortunately, some attemps to solve the problem
did not meet with a good reception on the dental
    market.
  • The following examples show two instruments
invented to solve the question, that are already
    on the market.

18
This is a kit, that is applied to the dental
chair. It allows the turbine to behave like a
real Parallelometer for laboratory. It is
certainly brilliant! Unfortunately it is
uncomfortable for the patient, who has to keep
still on the head-rest through a proper system of
locking. We think it is an high price for
him. Not to rinse his mouth and rest during a
long preparation time, it is inconceivable!
19
Some years ago the dental market proposed a
mirror, on which different parallel lines were
carved. The mirror should be inserted into the
oral cavity and, externally, the operator winking
or closing one eye, should find out the
disparallelism between the stumps. But the use of
the mirror was limited to the elements on one
side in the oral cavity. And mistake of parallax
was one of the cause for the lack of correct date.
20
DENTAL MINIPARALLELOMETER
  • PATENTED
  • Its strenght is in its simplicity !

An excellent relationship PRICE-BENEFIT
No discomfort for the patient
Immediate vision of the axis of insertion
indeed, the advantage of being just once under
the process for the preparation of the stumps.
We are studying the possibility that one of the
two parallel pivots may be interchanged with a
marker. In this way the undercut can be shown .
With little more than the price of extraction
forceps, an inimitable and indispensable
instrument for precise fixed prostheses.
