Title: AMTEC Skills Validation

1
AMTECSkills Validation
  • Annette Parker
  • System Director
  • Modularization and Workforce Education
  • Kentucky Community and Technical System

2
Historical Background
  • Focus on collaboration to define work
requirements for maintenance and tool die
    technicians.
  • Valid information to transform and improve
    instruction.
  • Combine traditional single crafts into a
    multi-skilled environment.

3
Consensus Building
  • Past Policy Board meetings focused on skills
    standards.
  • Resulting in objections and a lack of consensus.
  • Early 2006 considerable interest was generated on
a Turbo-DACUM job profile followed with a Delphi.

4
Reaching Agreement
  • Develop competencies using a Turbo-DACUM job
    profile.
  • Electronic DELPHI process - collect broad-based
    data.
  • Larger group input.

5
The Curriculum Focus
  • Tool die and maintenance specific applications.
  • Combine traditional single crafts into a
    multi-skilled environment.

6
Curriculum Development Process
  • Completed TurboDACUM at Toyota Motor
    Manufacturing Kentucky (Fall 2007).
  • Used the TurboDACUM data for the Delphi survey
    (March 2008).
  • Report findings geographic region, industry
    type, colleges and companies .
  • Develop a common core for the AMTEC Core
    curriculum.

7
The TurboDACUM Process
  • A computer-enhanced occupational and task
analysis process was used to identify skills and
    competencies for curriculum design.
  • The panel then identified any pre-requisite
    skills including--calculations, communications,
    technology, and safety.

9
Delphi Survey
  • Statistically reliable method
  • Broad-based data using an electronic survey
  • Three rounds to refine the data
  • Geographically dispersed group of experts
  • Consensus for the common competencies required in
    automotive manufacturing

10
Summary of Delphi Results
  • Round 1
  • Participant Total  132/232 56.9
  • Round 2
  • Participant Total 102/232 44
  • Round 3
  • Participant Total 70/232 30.2

Data Analysis
  • The TurboDACUM was a valid and reliable measure
of the competencies and skills for Toyota Motor
Manufacturing Kentucky Maintenance and Tool Die
    Technicians.
  • The Delphi proves that the common competencies
and skills for the automotive partner companies
are similar with some unique differences.
  • Further research and the gap analysis will
identify the common competencies and skills, as
well as, the company specific skills.
  • The AMTEC partner colleges will have valid
information to make curriculum adjustments to
better meet the needs of the industry partners.

18
Next Steps
  • KCTCS faculty will conduct a gap analysis to
their current curriculum content, leading to
    modularization.
  • Partner colleges and companies will receive
reports, sorted as required, for beginning a gap
    analysis.

19
Transition to the Proposed National Center of
Excellence
  • Build upon the work from the current project to
  • sponsor an AMTEC conference to compare the
    individual companies and colleges.
  • provide instructional program gaps and agree on a
    common core of content.
  • develop the missing curriculum content through
collaborative projects using an on-line and
    simultaneous revision processes.
  • develop the web-based and modularized model
    program design for flexible access
  • brand and standardize the model learning program
    for distribution
