Title: Types of saw blades

1
Types of saw blades
  • Crosscut
  • used to make smooth cuts across the grain
  • Rip
  • used to make smooth fast cuts with the grain
  • Combination
  • used to make fast cuts with or across the grain
  • Carbide tipped
  • more expensive but have a longer life

2
  • Dado head
  • used for make selected dado cuts

3
Other saw blades
  • Hacksaw
  • is selected by length, gauge, set of teeth, teeth
    per inch, and metal hardness.
  • Band saw
  • similar to hacksaw blade, except it is a
    continuous blade
  • Both of these types should be selected to to
allow three teeth to be in contact with the
    surface being cut.

4
Sabre saw blades
  • Three types
  • 1.knife
  • for cutting leather
  • 2.metal cutting
  • have 16 to 32 teeth per inch
  • 3.wood cutting
  • have 6 to 12 teeth per inch

5
Portable circular saw
  • Parts
  • trigger switch
  • guard lift handle
  • anti-kickback clutch
  • retractable guard
  • blade
  • handle
  • power cord
  • angle scale
  • tilt lock knob
  • tilt base

6
Uses of the portable circular saw
  • replaces the handsaw in most cases
  • takes the place of the bench or table saw
  • use in same or different location on any
    particular job
  • used for ripping, crosscutting, dodoing,
    grooving,angle cuts,bevels and mitres.
  • Considered one of the most important labor saving
pieces of equipment in the shop
  • WHY?

7
Procedure for using the circular saw
  • select a sharp blade of the correct type
  • properly adjust the saw and be sure all
    thumbscrews are tight
  • blade should be installed so that the teeth turn
    up toward the saw base
  • teeth should extend below the thickness of the
material to be cut to a distance equal to the
    depth of the teeth
  • secure material to be cut

8
  • start saw before blade touches the work
  • saw only in a forward direction
  • must be guided along a straight line
  • both hands should be used if possible
  • at the end of the cut release the trigger switch
and allow the blade to follow through as the saw
    is lifted away from work

9
Sabre Saw
10
Parts of the Sabre saw
  • on-off switch
  • guide knob
  • blade screw
  • toe
  • blade
  • tilting base
  • base tilt adjustment
  • handle
  • power cord strain reliever

11
Uses of the sabre saw
  • referred to as electric jigsaws or bayonet saws
  • make a reciprocating motion or orbital or oval
    motion
  • allows the cut to be made on the upward stroke
and the release of the chips on the downward
    stroke
  • stroke of blade is about 1 inch
  • saw cut varies from about 3200 to 4200 strokes
    per minute

12
  • motor sizes vary from about 1/6 to 1/2 HP
  • considered to be very versatile
  • can cut wood, sheet metal, plastics, fiberglass,
rods, tubing, rubber, masonite, leather, and
    other materials
  • to use this for different types of materials, the
blade has to be the right type
