SACat Plus databases
  • SACat Database
  • Compiled and grows as libraries in South African
    and surrounding countries add their holdings
    (their library codes) to records or as these
    libraries do cataloguing
  • Holdings is important to see at which
    institution an item is held. Updated daily as
    cataloguers work. Latter facilitates
    Interlending.
  • Contains collections of libraries in Southern
    Africa and contains bibliographic information
    referring to books, periodicals, audiovisual
    items and other information material.

    items published in South Africa.

    information on current and completed research
    projects undertaken at South African technikons.
  • Union Catalogue for Thesis and Dissertations
    (UCTD) contains bibliographic records of theses

    submitted to universities in South Africa.

    African research projects and covers the social
    sciences, humanities, economic and management
    sciences. It includes master's and doctoral

Requesting a document
  • End users or reference staff may arrange to
    search, find results and place requests for their
    Interlibrary Loan Divisions to attend to
  • Smaller libraries with no Interlibrary Loan
    Divisions can arrange the latter with bigger
    libraries also
  • The document will then be requested through the
    South African Interlending service (ReQuest)
  • This option is available once you have selected a
    record and the record displays in the full
    format.
  • You then click on the Request button on the
    screen.

  • Once you have clicked on the Request button the
    system will prompt you for a User ID and Password
  • This User ID and Password must be obtained from
    your ILL department (ILL Dept must register the
    patrons)

  • All the appropriate fields must be completed
    before the request may be submitted.
  • This request will now go to your institutions ILL
    section and they will request the item on your
    behalf.
