Title: Local Holdings Maintenance Itemspecific records for your collection
1Local Holdings MaintenanceItem-specific records
for your collection
ILLINET/OCLC Services February 2006
2Why local holdings records?
- Local Holdings helps you maintain accurate,
current holdings information to support ILL for
materials in any format - WorldCat local holdings records now conform to
the MARC 21 Format for Holdings Data (aka MFHDs) - You can indicate item-specific copying and
lending policies and scope of coverage for your
library's holdings
3When ?
-
- OCLC has converted Local Data Records (LDRs) to
MARC 21 Format For Holdings Data (MFHD) in
December 2005 - On Sunday, February 19, OCLC migrated its old
union list service to the new local holdings
maintenance service in the browser version of
Connexion. You can start using the service now! - OCLC will develop new offline local holdings
products sometime after the migration
4Where?
- Connexions browser interface at
- http//connexion.oclc.org
-
5How?
- The Connexion browser interface makes it easy to
add local holdings at the same time you're
cataloging an item. - You may also upload local holdings records in
batch through a Local Holdings Update serviceor
both!
6Reports / Statistics
- The Union List Strategic Report is a list of
serial titles requested from your library via
ILL. This comma-delimited file can be easily
imported into a spreadsheet or database program. - Local Holdings Maintenance statistics offer a
detailed electronic report of your monthly use of
Local Holdings. These reports include information
about online edits to local holdings records
sorted by creates, modifications and deletes. For
these and other stats, see - http//www.stats.oclc.org/
7Batch Processing of local holdings
- You can add or update your OCLC local holdings
records (LHRs) in WorldCat through batch
processing - You may submit batch files on a regular schedule
of your choice, or you may update with a one-time
batch project and then maintain your LHRs online
through the Connexion browser. - OCLC will begin to accept new batch update
projects in April, 2006. A special form will be
developed for local holdings batchloading.
