• The Rosetta Stone is made of black basalt. It
  is eleven inches thick, three feet nine inches
  high, and two feet four inches wide.

Occupational history

• This stone was a decree by Egyptian priests
  about the crowning of King Epiphanes. He lived
  from 203 B.C. to 181 B.C.

History of Excavation

• The Rosetta Stone was found by French soldiers
  while they were building a fort. After that, the
  British took over for a short while and made
  France give over the stone. For years it sat in a
  British museum. Then, a man named Jean-François
  Champollion tried to decipher the code. Once it
  was decoded, it helped many people learn the
  ancient Egyptian literature.

Cultural Data

• The Rosetta Stone was made to tell about King
  Ptolemy V. Epiphanes. There was one bleak period
  in Egypt when dominated by Persia.
