7
The need for better regulation
  • Complex and often un-coordinated and conflicting
EU regulations that are interpreted and
implemented differently in the member states are
one of the main challenges to the competitiveness
    of our industry.

8
Internal Market Completion
  • Harmonize taxation.
  • Harmonize procedures for homologation.
  • Harmonize legislation and interpretation of the
    legislation.

9
Intellectual Property Rights
  • The automotive industry in EU spends about 35
    bn on research and development.
  • We need a return on our investments and need
    protection of our IPR.

10
Research and Development
  • The EU level R D efforts are not sufficient to
maintain the competitiveness of our industry.
  • Reflect the R D investments made by the
automotive industry in the structure and funding
of the programs for European road transport.

11
SME support
  • A major part of the companies in our industry
are SMEs with limited resources but fully
    burdened by regulations.
  • Special support is needed for SMEs to stay
    competitive.

12
Training and Education
  • To maintain and improve our competitiveness we
need better educated and well trained people.
  • Stimulation for trainee schemes and continuous
    learning programs.

13
Restrictive Practises
  • It is very important that the EU prevents abuse
of dominant positions which could restrict
    competition in our industry.
