  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid
  • Application contains information on parent as
    well as student yearly income
  • The application is long, tiresome, and
    complicated to fill out, so ASK for help!!!
  • The application is due NO LATER THAN MARCH 2nd
    for the following academic year.
  • It can be done on line register for a pin number
    as soon as possible. www.fafsa.gov.ed

  • Scholarships FREE MONEY!!!
  • This is money put aside by various private
    institutions
  • For scholarships you must contact the institution
    and request an application
  • The application consists of general information
    as well as a personal statement regarding WHY
    you should be considered for the award.

  • Grants FREE MONEY
  • Pell Grant
  • Based on financial need and is available for
    students working towards their 1st degree..
  • Cal Grant A and B Based on California residency,
    financial need and for students working towards
    their 1st degree.
  • Cal Grant A - 1,500/3,500/9,500 CA
    Residents CA Public College
  • Entitlement Students needs at or above a 3.0 GPA
    and the application needs to be received on time.
  • Competitive Student needs at or above a 3.0 GPA
    and the parents income, education and other
    information is considered.
  • Cal Grant B - 1,500 CA Residents CA Public
    College Low Income
  • Entitlement Students needs at or above a 2.0 GPA
    and the application needs to be received on time.
  • Competitive Student needs at or above a 2.0 GPA
    and the parents income, education and other
    information is considered.

Loans
  • You have to pays these back
  • Stafford Loan 3.7 APR
  • Based on financial need Repayment 6mos after
    grad.
  • Subsidized
  • The Government pays interest while youre in
    school
  • Allowed to borrow up to 3,000 per year
  • Un Subsidized
  • The student pays interest while youre in school
  • Allowed to borrow up to 4,000 per year
  • Perkins Loan 5 APR
  • Based on students exceptional financial need
    Repayment 6mos after grad.
  • Allowed to borrow up to 4,000 per year
  • University Loans
  • Loans distributed directly form the university.
    These have similar rates and repayment periods as
    Stafford/Perkins.

Workstudy
  • Work while you study!!
  • Earn part of your financial aid through working
    on or off campus
  • A portion of your work wage is paid for by the
    federal government
  • Get a wonderful experience working in a field
    relating to your future.

Other things to consider...
  • This process takes time!
  • Filling out the FAFSA and getting the required
    paperwork takes a while so give yourself PLENTY
    of time!
  • Nobody is perfect...
  • Make copies of all your paperwork, your Financial
    Aid info as well as your Applications for
    schools.
  • Try not to worry!
  • The money IS out there, your job is to find it!
