• Most references to women in Jesus ministry

• Focus on historical location
• Not written by a companion of Jesus
• Draws on Israels history
• John the Baptist as prophet
• Marys song like Hannahs in 2 Samuel 2
• Jesus born in King Davids city, Bethlehem
• Highlights Jesus miraculous origin
• Perceived by both the lowly and the mighty

• Begins with reading in the synagogue (ch. 4)
• Main theme of his ministry
• Why was this so provocative?
• Does this foreshadow Jesus deeds?

Sermon on the Plain

• Sounds like similar sermon on the mount in
  Matthew 5-7
• But, has major differences
• Not spiritualized
• Has woes
• How is this good news?

  10 Prodigal Son, ch. 15)
• Genre of the parable
• Realistic story (not myth)
• Clear, applicable message
• Usually turns expectations upside down
• Commonly used by ancient rabbis
