Title: Hughes Mobile Satellite User Terminals

1
Hughes Mobile Satellite User Terminals
  • COTM BGAN and BGAN-X

2
Hughes Early Entry Solutions for BGAN COTM
  • Fully autonomous tracking antenna acquires and
tracks the BGAN satellite signal while on the
    move
  • Easy antenna installation on vehicle roof
  • Includes cables and power supplies for vehicular
    installation (12/24VDC power source)
  • ISDN voice (4 kbps), ISDN data (64 kbps)
  • Ethernet and WLAN access point
  • Allows simultaneous use of all interfaces
    (Ethernet, ISDN, and WLAN)
  • Multi-user capability (up to 11 simultaneous
    sessions)
  • Selectable Quality of Service
  • Two configurations Class 1 and Class2
  • Available from October 2006

3
Class 2 early entry COTM Solution
  • BGAN Class 2 COTM solution using a tracking
antenna connected to the Hughes 9201 BGAN
    terminal
  • Transceiver is mounted separately from the
    antenna inside the vehicle
  • Modem dimensions 10.8 x 13.6 x 2.0.
  • Tracking antenna dimensions 18.0 diameter x
    5.7 high
  • Full BGAN class 2 terminal operation in
stationary environment (up to 464kbps shared
    channel operation with 128kbps streaming)
  • Operating temperature -25 to 55?C
  • Software upgradeable to full BGAN-X operation
(COTM optimized) when supported by Inmarsat

4
Class 1 COTM solution
  • Integrated class 1 BGAN solution combining a
Hughes 9201 into a roof mounted dome tracking
    antenna
  • Improves data rate to 492kbps shared channel
    operation and 256kbps streaming
  • Product is a single unit with vehicular power,
Ethernet and ISDN cables routing to the interior
    of the vehicle.
  • Size 32 diameter x 14.5 high
  • Upgradeable to full BGAN-X operation (COTM
    optimized) when available from Inmarsat

5
BGAN COTM Performance Today
  • Hughes early entry BGAN units operate at the same
level of performance to a BGAN transportable
terminal when operating on the halt
  • BGAN system is not yet optimized for COTM
operation, so performance on the move must be
    considered best efforts.
  • During test in San Diego (20 degree satellite
elevation), BGAN system has successfully operated
and maintain connectivity for packet data and
    voice applications.
  • Signal outages of more than 3s will cause circuit
switched calls to be dropped and PS sessions to
be interrupted. May require user intervention to
    reactivate connections for longer outage
    durations.
  • Future BGAN-X operation expected to significantly
enhance the length of outage that can be survived

6
Future BGAN-X Mobile IP Modem
  • Traffic Channels
  • Up to 432kbps packet data (full duplex)
  • ISDN voice and data service
  • SMS and UMTS 3G USIM
  • Interfaces
  • Ethernet , ISDN, RS-232, 802.11b
  • Physical and Environmental
  • Weight 750 g
  • Dimensions 170mm x 165mm x 28 mm
  • Humidity 95 RH at 40ºC
  • Temperature -25ºC to 80ºC
  • Water Dust IP-55
