Transfer Control Study Group
  • SG Leaders
  • Chair Frank Hill Vice-Chair Pat Merlet
  • Purpose
  • To correct present IEEE 1278.1a DIS design
    deficiencies
  • To review and analyze HLA Transfer Ownership
  • To determine changes to the HLA RPR FOM and GRIM
  • Product
  • Draft Changes to 1278.1a and the DIS Enumeration
Document will be submitted to the new DIS PDG.
  • Schedule
  • Spring 2004 SIW
  • Fall 2004 SIW

3
Transfer Control SG
Results
  • Prepared draft IEEE 1278.1a DIS changes and
    achieved initial transfer control community
    consensus as follows
  • Para. 4.5.8.3 Entity handover completely revised.
  • Annex D Transfer Control Design Guidelines
    added.
  • Para. 5.2 Basic Data Types and Records
    developed.
  • Revisions to other paragraphs as applicable to
    the new design.
  • DIS Enumeration document new enumerations.
  • Draft changes were prepared to expedite the
process since there was good community
representation and key study group members were
    experienced in performing system engineering
    analysis and preparing standards.
  • Prepared an Interim Report covering activities to
    date.

4
Transfer Control SG
  • Activities
  • The TC Study Group has held weekly telecons over
    the last year.
  • A TC Study Group Reflector and Document Library
    is being maintained.
  • Participation by experienced DIS software
    developers and knowledgeable joint training
    exercise integrators.
  • Representatives present from all known DIS
transfer control software projects that have been
    completed or are in development.
  • Systems analysis and engineering studies
    performed.
  • Draft HLA RPR FOM and GRIM changes prepared.
  • Initial review of HLA transfer ownership issues.

5
Transfer Control Projects
  • The following DIS transfer control projects are
in development or planned within the near future
that use the new proposed standard
  • STAGE (implemented) eNGENUITY Technologies Inc,
    Canada
  • AWSIM (initial implementation), AFAMS, Raytheon,
    U.S.
  • NGTS (initial implementation), AFAMS, Raytheon,
    U.S.
  • DMOC DIS Filter Gateway (under development), LMC,
    U.S.
  • Will allow legacy virtual simulators to be
    transfer control capable without requiring
    modifications to their simulator.
  • Thales Training Systems (Planned) Great Britain

6
New Transfer Control DesignOverview
  • IEEE 1278.1a
  • New replacement for paragraph 4.5.8.3 Entity
    Handover
  • Other changes to IEEE 1278.1a
  • Changes to DIS Enumeration Document
  • Message Sequence
  • Push
  • Pull
  • Record Definitions

9
New Record Definitions
10
Munition Record Example
11
New Transfer Control DesignOwnership Information
  • Ownership information restored
  • Transferred Entity Indicator (1-bit) in New PDU
Status Field of Entity State PDU. PDU Status
Field uses the present 16-bit padding field)
  • Ownership Report (Event Report PDU)
  • Ownership Request and Response
  • (Data Query PDU and Data PDU)
  • Backwards compatible to max extent possible.

12
New Transfer Control DesignKey Concepts
  • Local/Remote Entity Determination.
  • Provides for Auto and Manual Transfer in various
    combinations.
  • New Auto and Manual Timers.
  • Mutual Transfers (i.e., swap) deleted.
  • HLA RPR FOM Draft Updates.

13
Native HLA
  • Native HLA Transfers have been implemented.
  • Initial briefing on JTLS-JCATS and CBS-JCATS
    transfer ownership.
  • Known Issues
  • Attributes can become ownerless.
  • No way to transfer ownership to or from a
    specific federate.

14
Remaining Tasks
  • Provide proposed IEEE 1278.1a updates to new DIS
    PDG and work with them.
  • Look at Native HLA Transfer Ownership in more
    detail.
  • Complete review of HLA RPR FOM Changes.
  • Continue to support developers through the
    Transfer Control Help Desk.
  • Complete Sensor, Location, Formation Record
    designs.
  • Make changes based on implementation experience.
  • Complete DIS Ownership Conflict resolution.
  • Complete DIS Sim Management PDU Review.
  • Includes possible new Relinquish Ownership TCR
    PDU.

15
Transfer Control Resources
  • SISO TC Study Group Reflector
  • Messages
  • Telecon announcements.
  • SISO TC Document Library
  • Transfer Control Guidance Document.
  • includes latest version of changes to IEEE
1278.1a and the DIS Enumeration Document.
  • Draft Final Report
  • Transfer Control Telecon Minutes

16
Ownership Conflict
  • Decide on need for automatic vs manual conflict
    detection and resolution.
  • If manual only option- agree on rules.
  • prepared.
