Title: The GeneSyS Project

1
The GeneSyS Project
  • An Introduction to the
  • Generic Systems
  • Supervision Project

2
Introduction
  • Information Society Project (IST-2001-34162)
funded by the European Union's Fifth RTD
    Framework Programme
  • 2.5 year project, started in March 2002
  • Cost 2.61 million
  • Partners EADS LV, SYSLOAD, D3-GROUP, RUS, MTA
    SZTAKI

3
Goals
  • Our mission is to enhance distributed systems and
applications with a generic and standardized
supervision solution and nurture its practical
implementation and multi-sector exploitation as a
key enabler for the competitiveness of European
    research and industry.

4
Objectives of GeneSyS
  • To specify and develop an open, generic, modular
and comprehensive supervision concept a new
    supervision middleware
  • To integrate and validate this supervision
    structure within various industrial contexts
  • To achieve the adoption of the GeneSyS concepts
by all stakeholders (internal and external to the
consortium), and to ensure that the vision of the
proposed generic structure will become a new
    emerging standard.

5
GeneSyS Architecture new supervision middleware
  • To ensure the openness and generic aspect of the
supervision, the GeneSyS architecture is based on
    two distinct types of entities
  • a communication Core (CORE),
  • supervision Plug-ins (SP).

6
Validation Scenarios
  • Relevant and realistic scenarios based on real
user-cases of the industry will support the
validation process. They will be inspired by
    several complementary industrial domains
  • Distributed simulation
  • Distributed engineering
  • E-business

7
Validation Scenarios distributed simulation
  • The distributed simulation domain supervising
typical exercises of distributed group training

8
Validation Scenarios distributed engineering
  • The distributed engineering domain will be
    addressed by typical applications of
collaborative design and non collocated project
    reviews

9
Validation Scenarios Automotive scenario 1.
  • Moenkemoeller Workflow Application at BMW to
guide the Change Management for engine control
    units
  • Technology Microsoft .NET

10
Validation Scenarios Automotive scenario 2.
  • GECI Car crash simulation using RADIOSS software
  • Remote cooperative working of RADIOSS experts at
GECI office and the client at their site using
    GTI6
  • Technology PHP

11
Dissemination, exploitationand standardisation
  • The project aims to implement the GeneSyS API and
    distribute it open-source
  • Besides distributing the GeneSyS software the
project will produce dissemination materials (Web
site, CD-ROM, brochure, newsletter, etc.) to
    promote GeneSyS
  • Project partners take steps to convince
industrial partners and to make GeneSyS a
    quasi/formal distributed supervison standard

12
Partners .
  • Project coordinator
  • 100 subsidiary of the EADS N.V. group, the
European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company
  • Since 1994, EADS LV has included the Distributed
Simulation technologies in its key strategies of
    research
  • EADS LV will mainly behave as User by validating
the GeneSyS product in front of its training and
engineering applications in the space domain.

13
Partners -
  • NAVUS, founded in 1995 is a software development
company for technical and scientific applications
  • Beside focusing on application development, NAVUS
created a new category of software, called
"webware, which are fully Internet based and
    ready-to-use solutions.
  • NAVUSs contribution to the GeneSyS project
    include specification of the middleware
    architecture and leading the development

14
Partners
  • D3 Group GmbH (formed in 1996) actively
    participates in innovative technology projects
(including ESA and CEC RD), applied space
programmes such as ISS and ATV
  • Since 1997, D3 participates in RD projects
focused on distributed simulation and networking
  • D3 Groups project activities include leading the
State of the Art research and participating in
    the GeneSyS API design, specification
    implementation

15
Partners -
  • RUS is the first German National Supercomputer
Centre (HLRS) and worked for a long time in
    Collaborative Systems including complex
    simulation processes
  • RUS will provide a technology oriented and
    state-of-the-art knowledge on processes,
    networking and standardisation aspects, as
crucial for the definition of advanced and
effective software services for the GeneSyS
    Architecture.

16
Partners -
  • MTA SZTAKI is the largest institute of the
Hungarian Academy of Sciences for research and
development in the fields of computer sciences
    and automation
  • DSD (Dep. of Distributed Systems) is involved in
the development of groupware applications digital
    library systems and audio/video conferencing
    environments
  • MTA SZTAKI/DSD leads groupware and dissemination
    related activities in GeneSyS
