  • World Class Workforce
  • ASTs no pressure!
  • MMR2 (p79)
  • The establishment of a more effective, and more
consistently national, network of ASTs for music
to provide guidance and professional development
to primary school class teachers, teaching
    assistants and other support staff.
  • An audit of the geographical and educational
phase locations of ASTs in order to enable a more
balanced national network to be established.
  • ASTs to work more effectively with emerging
school music federations and music services to
deliver more support for music at KS1 and KS2
    through primary school networks.

14
NAME AST conference
  • From September 2007 the grant funded ASTs move
into 'wave 3' of work which means 50 of their
outreach time ( typically 38 1/2 days or 19 days)
will be available for/directed by relevant LA
staff to help use them in supporting teaching and
    learning and raising achievement.

15
NAME AST conference
  • QCA Year 5 questionnaire
  • My favourite lessons are....because I always
    learn new things.
  • I like ..... as I can understand it much better
than in Year 4, I think my teacher explains it
better because I had trouble understanding last
    year.
  • Pupils felt the most important things at school
were enjoying the work and being with
friends...they were clear that enjoying learning
didnt mean liking easy lessons. They much
preferred to have a challenge and then enjoy
    success.
  • One of the things they disliked the most was
    being bored in a lesson.
  • Desire to learn in active ways
  • Time spent at break or lunchtime and at clubs as
a really important part of the school.

NAME AST conference
  • Primary Review
  • Informal learning, such as learning out of
school, should be recognised as at least as
significant as formal learning and should
therefore be valued and appropriately utilised in
    formal processes.
