2
Mechanical Systems status
  • 2 group meetings in past week.
  • Discussed RSVP Review schedule and requirements.
  • Engineering and Physics assignments
  • Booster F6 G.Mahler
  • Booster Injection M.Maps, C.Gardner
    (YYLee)
  • Booster/AGS Magnet Coils V.Badea, G.Mahler

Extraction devices Specifications
  • Measured beam emittance for high intensity
    protons, made in 1996
  • eh99,N 98 p mm-mrad
  • ev99,N 85 p mm-mrad
  • To make the acceptance of H20 and F10 gt99 p
mm-mrad for 8 GeV high intensity protons, then we
    require the following apertures
  • F5
    F10 H20 (mm)
  • horz. gap (mm) 44.45 38.1
    10 - 30 (variable gap)
  • vert. gap (mm) 25.4 30.4
    30.4
  • Length (m) 0.667
    0.811.222.03 2.3
  • Septum (mm) 0.76 13.5/15.85
    0.051
  • Bend (mrad) 1.1 18.5
    0.43
  • Field 2.1 kG (40) 14.4 kG
    80 kV/cm
  • (currently F10 and H20 gaps are 20 mm)

Mechanical Group Schedule Outline
  • FY 2005
  • cost estimates and preliminary design work
depending on the complexity of the projects (110
    to 220 hours ).
  • FY 2006(buy parts for those things that we know
    the design for)
  • AGS magnet coils sextupole and quadrupole
  • Booster magnet coils
  • uncoated AGS vacuum flanges
  • the Booster F6 spare magnet
  • new RC networks
  • new F10 magnets (if the design is not radically
    different ).
  • Summer of 2006
  • rework as many AGS dipole and sextupole magnets
    as parts will allow.
  • If possible the new F10 magnet should be
    installed.
  • FY 2006 (start the design and testing effort )
  • new electrostatic septum
  • new AGS RC networks
  • the F5 magnet
  • the Booster injection dumps.

5
Mechanical Group Schedule Outline
  • FY 2007 (purchase parts)
  • the new F5 magnet
  • the Booster C5/C7 injection dumps
  • if possible the new electrostatic septum. The
design of the new electrostatic septum should be
completed during the year and parts should be
    purchased.
  • Summer of 2007
  • assemble install the new F5 magnet
  • prepare the AGS ring for the installation of the
    new electrostatic septum.
  • Rework any remaining AGS or Booster magnets.
  • If new absorber or diffuser assemblies are to be
installed in the AGS or Booster rings it should
    be done in FY 2007.
  • FY 2008
  • the new electrostatic septums should be
assembled and tested and then installed during
    the summer 2008 shutdown.

6
ICFA mini-workshop on septa
  • Tentatively scheduled to take place here at BNL
during the first week of March, 2005.
  • Will include experts from J-PARC, KEK, GSI, CERN,
    FNAL

7
CFI Issues
  • 25 MHz RF Cavity shielding and access.
  • What is radiation dose when cavity is on ?
  • RHIC Cavity measurements
  • 2.5 rad/hr at 9 ft.
  • scaling to 1 ft, 13-99 rad/hr
  • Do we need to run the cavity when the AGS is open
? How much time will the cavity require to be
    conditioned ?

8
Tasks to Complete
  • Final F5 and F10 power supply costs 10/7
  • Final Mechanical group costs
    10/7
  • BNL part of CFI costs
    10/7
  • Final Shield cap costs 10/7
  • Collimators
    10/14
  • Electrical systems schedule 10/7
  • Mechanical systems schedule 10/7
  • Instrumentation systems 10/7
  • Controls schedule 10/14
