Title: NCSA Easyviz Databridge

1
NCSA Easyviz / Databridge
  • REVITALISE Workshop
  • June 20, 2005

2
Agenda
  • Review of Concepts Scatter vs. Uniform
  • Activity A
  • Activity B

3
NCSA Easyviz
  • VTK Uniform
  • Isosurfaces, Orthoslices, Measurement Tools

4
NCSA Data Bridge
  • Input Dataset
  • Output to EasyViz, AVS, or other VTK
    Visualization Tool (Paraview)

5
Scatter Data
  • A type of data set in which the points are not
laid out evenly on a grid.
  • For example, when one takes a handful of
pennies, throws them into a fountain and measures
the temperature at the location of every penny,
the person is creating a scatter data set.

6
More on Scatter Data
  • Since scatter data is not on a grid, each point
    must have a set of coordinates (x, y, z)
    associated with it.

7
Uniform Data
  • A type of data set where the measurements are
    equally spaced (as a grid).
  • For example, if you take a chess board, and
consider each square having a value, you have a
    uniform data set.

8
What If
  • your scatter data is evenly spaced, which
implies the data is in a grid?
  • For our purposes with Easyviz and Databridge, we
consider this data as scatter data even though it
has the properties of a uniform data set.

9
In Short
  • If your dataset has coordinates explicitly
associated with each data point, it is scatter.
  • If your dataset has no coordinates explicitly
associated with each data point, it is uniform.
