Title: This main page has a basic four column grid' At the top, a central row spans across all the columns

1
This main page has a basic four column grid. At
the top, a central row spans across all the
columns and serves as an advertisement area that
attracts the most attention on the page.
The navigation bar provides a clear and
consistent anchor point that people can use to
always navigate back to the home page or to any
of the main second-level links.
The blue circle really stands out from the rest
of the content. This was an appropriate design
decision because it is advertising FREE express
shipping, which is a factor that helps persuade
people to purchase from the site, and it appears
that a main purpose of the site is to sell
palmOne products. The blue also serves as a
consistent design element that attracts attention
and is repeated on the left side of the page with
the word new as well as update under the
support heading in the second column.
The second level nodes are given fairly equal
emphasis in this column layout. In adherence to
the commercial purpose of the site, stores,
products, and software are given slightly more
emphasis because they are higher on the page and
occur above the fold of the page on smaller
screens.

The nav bar is consistent on interior pages,
providing a consistent anchor point for users.
The design of this interior page is dramatically
different from the home page. The top row of the
page, including the palmOne logo, nav bar, and
quick links, is the only element that is repeated
from the home page.
The top advertisement area from the home page has
been removed. Instead of uniformly sized rows,
this page has varied row sizes, resulting in a
staggered layout. The staggered layout is more
visually interesting than straight rows and is a
good design for this page because it contains
mainly text, which might otherwise discourage
readers from using the page.
This nav column is not present on the home page
but is appropriate for this interior page because
it provides second-level navigation.
The four column grid of the main content area has
been replaced by two unequal columns. This gives
the page a very different appearance and gives
its elements varying degrees of emphasis. The
elements in the narrower column have more
emphasis because they are located on the left and
their headings are substantially larger than the
headings in the right column.
Unlike on the home page, advertisements are
placed on the bottom left corner of the page.
This gives these elements less emphasis and
allows more emphasis to be placed on the more
important community information.

Target text and logo provide a clear home page
link but do not demand attention or detract from
the pages main content.
The main content area occupies three-fourths of
the page width, making it stand out more than any
other section of the page. The largest and most
colorful element by far is the ad for the
furniture sale. Its importance is further
enhanced by its positioning in the center of the
screen. The emphasis on this ad is logical
because it is an e-commerce website.
The nav column provides consistent secondary
navigation to users and is a key element of the
pages grid layout.
The text content is divided into three columns of
equal width and emphasis.

This design of this interior page is very
consistent with the home page. Users will easily
associate the two pages as part of the same site.
The nav bar, logo, and quick links remain in the
same position as on the home page.
This ad is smaller than the one on the main page,
but it follows the same format of running across
three columns.
The placement and size of this nav column is the
same as that on the home page and is in the area
where most users would expect it to be.
The three column layout of the main content area
is retained from the home page. Each product
receives fairly equal emphasis with consistent
picture sizes, descriptions, and headings.

This home page basically has a two-column grid
with a nav column on the left and a top graphic
area spanning the width of the page.
Much emphasis is given to the graphic element,
which pictures typical Hawaiian scenes. It
serves its purpose of drawing interest of this
hotels environment.
This is not an even two-column grid because the
textual element is slightly wider than the
graphic. It appears unbalanced or as though the
text is encroaching on the graphics space.

The navigation bar is consistent with the one on
the home page and provides users with easily
located top-level navigation.
The graphic is smaller than the one on the home
page, but smaller graphics are common for
interior pages. It also gives slightly more
emphasis back to the main content area, which
contains the information most pertinent to the
user.
The absence of the flower picture that was in the
nav column on the home page shifts the grid to
the left.
The left column of the main content area is wider
than the right column, but this imbalance remains
consistent with the columns on the home page.
