  • Port and industrial activity
  • Rosario is situated in the right bank of the
Paraná River. The Port of Rosario is in fact a
vast port complex of 80 km and it has a draft of
32 feet. There are terminals from Puerto General
San Martín (to the North) to Villa Constitución
    (to the South).
  • This complex monopolizes 68 of the vegetal oils
shipments, 85 of subproducts shipments and 47
of the grain shipments of the entire country
  • The main industrial sector is the food sector
(representing 21 of the industrial activity).
Secondly, the metal and mechanic industry
represents 18 and, finally the machinery and
equipment industry, 10. There are also
petrochemical, paper, wood, textile and plastic
    industries.
  • As regards the food industry, the most remarkable
oil plant in the country is situated in the Great
Rosario. This complex represents 50 of the
milling capacity and 68 of the vegetable oils
    exports.
  • 63 of the companies are small and medium size.
It is also noticeable that several multinational
companies like General Motors, Dupont, Cargill,
ICI y John Deere, settled in the towns of the
    Great Rosario.
  • The agricultural richness of the South of Santa
Fe made Rosario the most important port centre,
dedicated mainly to the international commerce of
cereals, oleaginous and oils. The port complex
of Rosario operates US 6.472 million in exports
    and US 835 in imports.

Agro-industrial Chains in Argentina
  • The growth of production and productivity in
Argentina boosts the sector and the
agro-industrial chain as it does in some
    countries without subsidies for production.
  • The evident competitiveness corroborates its
dynamism and projection in the future.
  • It is necessary to consolidate this growth and
    develop alternatives to add value.
  • There is an urgent need to promote the
    institutional functionality of the
    agro-industrial chain.
