    d'augmenter. 60 années d'éclat, de tapis rouge,
    de variété culturelle, de débats,

    rire et de déchirures.

What is the Festival De Cannes?
  • The Cannes film festival is one of the worlds
    oldest, most influential and prestigious film
    festivals.
  • It is held annually in the month of May at the
    Palais des Festivals et des congrès in the resort
    town of Cannes.

History
  • 1939- Date when the first Cannes Film Festival
    was scheduled to be held under the aegis of Jean
    Zay, Philippe Erlanger, and Louis Lumière
  • 1946- Sept. 20th- Oct. 5th was the first actual
    Festival that was held in the former Casino de
    Cannes
  • In 1948 1950- The Festival was cancelled due to
    budgetary problems
  • 1951- April 3rd-20th The Festival changed its
    dates to be held in the spring
  • 1955- There was the creation of the Palme dOr
  • 1993- The first time that a female director, Jane
    Campion was award the Palme dOr
  • 2002- The International Film Festival officially
    adopts the title Festival de Cannes.

The Events
  • Marché du Film- The busiest movie market of the
    world
  • Masterclasses- Given in public by world renowned
    filmmakers
  • Tributes- Honorees internationally renowned
    artists with the presentation of the Festival
    Trophee following the screening of one of their
    films.
  • Exhibitions- Each year, an artist, a body of work
    or a cinematographic theme becomes the focus of
    an exhibition that diversifies or illustrates the
    events programmer.
  • 60th Anniversary- Events were organized in 2007
    dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the
    Festival.

The Feature Film Awards
  • Cinéfondation- Il est composé d'un Président et
    quatre personnalités de film. Il est attribué au
    meilleur trois films dans le cinèfondation de
    même que le Palme de Film Court.
  • Un le Certain Egard- Il est composé d'un
    Président, gens du métier des journalistes et
    représentants dindustrie. Il attribue l'Onu le
    Certain Prix d'Egard pour le meilleur film et la
    meilleure boîte, de plus, les honneurs deux
    autres films.
  • Camèra- Il est composé d'un Président, de même
    qu'un réalisateurs, un techniciens et français et
    les critiques internationaux. Il récompense le
    meilleur film dans n'importe quelle section.

  • Grand Théâtre Lumière- The Grand Théâtre Lumière
    screens the feature films in competition and out
    of competition of the official selection.
  • The Debussy Théâtre - Screens the official
    selection Un Certain Regard and the shorts
    competition.
  • The Bazin Théâtre - Hosts the press screening of
    the selection Un Certain Regard.
  • Cinéma du Monde- The theatre of the program Tous
    les Cinémas du Monde
  • Cinéma du la Plage- An outdoor festival where
    films of the Official Selection out of the
    competition and Cannes Classics are screened.

Funding Media Coverage
  • The Festival's budget amounts to approximately 20
    million euros, half of which originates from
    public funding via the National Cinema Centre
    (CNC) under the authority of the Ministry of
    Culture, the City of Cannes and other local
    authorities. This financing is completed by
    contributions from a number of professional and
    institutional groups along with the Festival's
    Official partners.
  • Media Coverage- in 2007 there were 3,611
    Journalists and 765 Technicians which brings the
    total to 4,376
