Westborough Primary School, UK
  • The structure to be used as an after school club
uses an unusual building material - cardboard!
  • Of course it isn't just cardboard, as it would
get soggy in the rain, or could burn down
  • It uses cardboard panels and cardboard tubes
within the walls, roof and structure.
  • because cardboard is made from recycled paper,
and can be recycled too, so it is a green
    material
  • because it has the potential to be a cheap
    building material
  • because it helps the local community and school
  • because it helps the children to learn - because
its fun to do something unusual

3

  • All concrete contains 50 flyash, a recycled
    utility waste product of coal
  • Natural ventilation replaces air conditioning
  • Mats at entry doors are made from recycled tires
  • Many building materials are left untreated to
    reduce the use of chemicals
  • More than 50 of wood products are from
    sustainable sources
  • Photovoltaic (solar energy) roof panels provide
50 of lighting and electrical needs
  • Composting toilets eliminate water use
  • Carpets are made from 95 recycled materials

4
BedZED Housing, UK
  • A housing development constructed from
sustainable resources that uses no fossil fuels
  • Provides a solar-powered electric car
  • Rainwater is stored to use in each house
  • Solar panels are on the roofs
  • Turf roofs to help with insulation

5
Villa Eila, Guinea

    locally found materials
  • Wall screens are made from bamboo
