What is Vanpool?
  • Vanpooling - Vanpools are similar to carpools,
    except they involve more people. A vanpool is a
    group of 5 to 15 people who regularly travel
    together to work usually 30 miles or more
    (roundtrip) in a van.
  • Benefits to Vanpooling
  • Vanpoolers can shave an average of 20 minutes off
    of their commute time
  • Lower the stress
  • Lower driving costs
  • Help do your part to cleaner air and reduced
    traffic

Metros Vanpool Program Description
  • Metro administers the Metro Vanpool Program to
    provide alternative transportation choices to
    commuters, improve air quality, and reduce
    congestion on regional roadways. This program
    offers a monthly financial subsidy to commuter
    vanpools to offset the monthly lease fare to each
    vanpool passenger.

What is Metros Vanpool Program?
  • Metro provides an ongoing subsidy of up to 400
    per month to vanpools of 5-15 passengers that
    have their commutes end in Los Angeles County.
  • Thirty-two percent (32) of vanpools in Metros
    program either start or end their commute in a
    South Bay City.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Vanpool that ends at an employment site in Los
    Angeles County
  • Vanpool begins with 70 occupancy
  • e.g., minimum of 5 passengers for 7-passenger van
    (driver is included)
  • Available (empty) seats are open to the public
  • Vanpool participant agrees to all program
    requirements including reporting
  • Maintain program guidelines and reporting
    requirements
  • Employee may enter into agreement without employer

Metro - SBCCOG Relationship
  • Metro and South Bay Cities Council of Governments
    are working on a pilot project to market Metros
    Vanpool program.
  • Concerted outreach and marketing is being
    conducted through the South Bay Environmental
    Services Center.
  • Metro and SBESC see cities as a partner in
    marketing the program.
