10Opportunities for Alachua County to Promote
Multimodal Planning
- Commute Trips
- Neighborhood Travel
- School Travel
- Work-based Trips for County Employees
11Challenges in Developing Multimodal Transportation
- Most of our measurements are based on automobile
capacity and ignore or dont accommodate other
modes - Lack of consideration of regional impacts of
travel and consideration of local connectivity - Challenge is to identify ways to keep people out
of their cars and reduce the need for purchase of
cars in the first place
12Goals of Multimodal Planning
- Focus development in more efficient locations
- Focus on different scales of development
- Focus development through financial incentives
and disincentives - Channel development to increase system
efficiencies - Support travel demand management (TDM) strategies
13Commute Trips
- Identification of, and investment in, a variety
of transit options throughout the community (park
and ride, peak hour service, etc.) - Carpool matching services (UF Green commute
options) - Flex Car and other shared car service
- Preferential parking for green commute travel
- Development of Transit Endowment Funds for
projects that promote public transit
14Coordination of Land Use and Transportation
- Establishing Area-Based Thresholds of Land-Use
Intensity - Transportation-Efficiency Land Use Mapping Index
(TELUMI) - Growth and Transportation Efficiency Centers
(GTEC) - Variable impact fees based upon multimodal
potential and location within the region - Expedited review for projects with greater
multimodal potential
15School Travel
- Better coordination of location of schools and
childrens travel to schools
