Bologna Declaration
The Declarations Objectives
  • Adoption of a system of comparable degrees, based
    on two main cycles. First cycle of at least 3
    yr, relevant to labour market.
  • Implementation of a European Diploma Supplement,
    to increase titles transparency and
    employability.
  • Establishment of a system of credits (such as the
    ECTS, European Credit Transfer System).
  • Recognition of credits acquired in other contexts
    than higher education system.
  • Promotion of European dimension in higher
    education interinstitutional cooperation,
    integrated programs of study, etc.
  • Elimination of remaining obstacles to free
    mobility.
  • Promotion of European quality-assurance systems.

Introduction
The aim of the whole project which is funded by
the European Commission (2003 2006) is
Aligning European Higher Education Structure In
Sport Science (AEHESIS) by focusing on two major
aspects
  • To integrate programmes and time frames of the
    educational structures

2. To ensure that the identified structures
relate to the need of the labour market in four
main areas
  • Sport Management
  • Physical Education
  • Health Fitness
  • Sport Coaching

Specific objectives
  • The specific objectives of the Thematic Network
    are to
  • Describe, analyse and compare existing university
    and non-university programmes (mapping)
  • Bring about a high level of Europe-wide
    convergence and transparency in four main areas
    of sport science by defining commonly accepted
    professional and learning outcomes
  • Engage with the labour market to ensure
    vocational relevance by developing professional
    profiles and desired outcomes in terms of
    knowledge, skills competencies
  • Identify and promote examples of good practice
  • Develop and exchange information in relation to
    the development of curricula and to develop a
    model curriculum structure for each area

1st 2nd year activities (2003-05)
  • Set up a management and research structure in
    the project
  • Start to build up an electronic communication
    environment and service database

  • Develop a methodology for analysing and comparing
    programmes and for identifying common
    elements and areas of specificity and diversity
  • Build a general overview of the degrees and the
    implementation of the Bologna process in the
    countries involved (mapping)
  • Develop and exchange information in relation to
    the development of curricula and to develop a
    model curriculum structure for each area

Next steps
  • Mapping will be extended to all countries and
    all institutions/ organisations offering
    university or non-university programmes in the
    sport sector
  • Survey (curriculum questionnaire) will be
    extended
  • Evaluation of the activities
  • The four area groups are doing further work on
    the agreed 6 step model to build up a model
    curriculum structure
  • Mobilising as much as possible stakeholders to
    co-operate with the AEHESIS project (e.g.
    Ministries, Public bodies, professional
    organisations)
  • Final Conference, held in Prague/Czech Republic
    on 01 02 September 2006
