DESCRIPTION OF CENTER
  • This center is designed to facilitate math
    activities and math concepts. This Wal-Mart
    Super Center has various centers Check-Out
    Center, Food Court, Books/Entertainment, Grocery.
    Here at this center students can experience an
    everyday experience that will prepare the to
    assist their parents. They will also learn the a
    few of the main components in a super center
    atmosphere.

Specific objectives of the center
  • Unity Bank To familiarize children with the
    procedures of a bank and the usage of money
  • Grocery Center Provide hands on experience with
    mathematical component such as measurement,
    approximation, weight, etc.
  • Books Entertainment The students will read,
    listen, and participate in activities that will
    facilitate math concepts i.e. patterns, matching,
    reading.
  • Food Court Provide money managing skills,
    trading skills, and on-to-one concepts.

Specific Safety Considerations
  • Be careful while others are using materials that
    might be sharp.
  • Make center spacious, i.e. personal space
  • Follow classroom rules at all times while in the
    center.
  • Be aware of small pieces in the center

  • Student can be given a partner
  • Provide pictures , etc.
  • Make sure everything is able to be reached by
    people with a disability
  • Be available and aware of that particular child.

  • Incorporate higher math skills i.e.
    multiplication / division
  • Introduce other currency

  • Compare value meal price to regular price
    separately and find the savings.
  • Give student a set amount and ask what items they
    could buy.

Incorporation for an English Language Learner
  • Post duplicate center cards, instructions, or
    labels in that student particular language
  • Introduce the whole class to that language
  • Find out how to count money in that language
  • Let the student demonstrate how to count in that
    language
  • If there is more than one language in your class
    designate a week to explore that language
