What is the North American Title Count?
  • Longitudinal and comparative collections resource
(similar to now defunct AMIGOS product)
  • Data collected, through 2001, every four years,
by subcommittee of ALCTS (Association for Library
    Collections and Technical Services), recently
taken over by Library Dynamics due to lack of
    funding
  • Voluntary participation

9
What is the North American Title Count
(continued)?
  • Divides up holdings by LC Classification,
    regardless of format
  • Electronic items with LC classifications are
    included
  • Conversions made for items catalogued by Dewey
  • Numerous exceptions may be present
  • Unlike ARL, NATC counts titles not volumes
  • Single title of journal rather than whole run of
    journal counted
  • Unfortunately, different institutions appear each
    year, rendering comparisons difficult

How to calculate cost?
  • Several methods employed, depending on the
    liaison
  • Average price of title in discipline (e.g.
    Yankee) X smallest institutional gap
  • Average price of title in discipline (e.g.
Yankee) X mean difference with other institutions

16
  • Math and CS Report

  • Based on information from annual Departmental
    Liaison Plan
  • note not all reports were done this way
  • Consulted departments website
  • Some of this information was outdated!
  • Spoke with Chair of Math/CS Department made
    needed corrections
  • Included info. about Approval Plan
