1. Partnerships CSD Criteria
  • Based on Bali guidelines, further developed at
    CSD-11

2. Partnership Objectives
  • to implement GHS awareness raising activities at
    the regional and national levels
  • to assist preparation of regional and national
    GHS-related situation analyses and capacity needs
    assessments
  • to develop capacity building guidance and
    training materials on GHS strategy development
    and implementation
  • to provide feedback to the ECOSOC SCEGHS, the
    CSD, the IOMC, and the IFCS on issues relevant to
    GHS capacity building

Regional and Sub-regional Levels Programme

  • Initial targets
  • Regional and sub-regional GHS capacity needs
    assessments and GHS implementation scenarios
    prepared by 2004
  • Regional GHS Awareness Raising Workshops
    organized in major regions by 2005
  • Regional partner organizations identified and
    train-the-trainer workshops completed by 2005

4. Support of GHS Capacity Development at the
Regional and Sub-regional Levels Programme
Area 1
  • 2002 Activities and Progress Made
  • Agreement was reached and funds were mobilized
    for a first regional GHS workshop for the 14
    countries of the Southern African Development
    Community (SADC) to be held in Livingstone,
    Zambia in September 2003 (GTZ, IFCS, UNITAR)
  • Plans for 2003-2004
  • 1 pledge was received to contribute financial
    resources for additional regional workshop in
    2003-2004 (ICCA)

5. Support of GHS Capacity Development at the
Country Level Programme Area 2
  • Initial targets
  • Pilot projects on GHS Action Plan Development
    completed in four countries by 2004
  • Two pilot projects for GHS Action Plan
    Development per UN region completed and evaluated
    by 2005
  • National GHS Action Plan projects initiated in
    the greatest possible number of countries,
    subject to the availability of resources
    (2005-2008)

  • 2002 Activities and Progress Made
  • A number of countries have been engaged in
    developing national GHS action plans in the
    context of the UNITAR/ILO GHS capacity assistance
    (or affiliated) programmes, such as
  • Zambia is executing a two year (2001-03) project
    entitled Developing and Implementing a National
    Action Plan for Chemical Hazard Communication and
    GHS Implementation
  • South Africa is preparing the development of an
    implementation strategy for the GHS including
    on-the-ground training

  • Plans for 2003-2004
  • Selection of additional project countries for GHS
    Action Plan development and implementation is
    planned for 2003-2004, resources permitting

    legal implications, etc.) and for various targets

  • Development of a guidance package for undertaking
    rapid comprehensibility testing and include
    testing modules, a users manual, etc.

    capacity building activities completed and
    planned links to other relevant websites, and a
    list of contact points
