Suggested Automotive Applications
Nansulates unique thermal insulation abilities
offer many opportunities for increased vehicle
performance.
Increase Engine Performance. THE SOLUTION
Increase engine horsepower and performance by
coating various parts with our Nansulate
Translucent High Heat product to create a thermal
barrier, and reduce heat transfer. Suggested
parts include Intake manifold, Fuel tank, Fuel
pump, any others where reduction of heat transfer
would be a benefit.
Reduce Heat Transfer to Interior of the
vehicle. THE SOLUTION Use of Nansulate on the
interior of the chassis and the firewall between
the drivers compartment and the engine can help
to keep the interior of the car cooler. A cooler
vehicle interior reduces the workload of the A/C
unit, using less gasoline.

1. Thin Film Insulation
Nansulate is a patented product, offering unique
benefits not possible in a thin film coating
until now. Nansulate can be applied in a
variety of tight spaces and to a number of
components to keep heat transfer to a minimum,
thus increasing energy efficiency.   The active
ingredient of Nansulate is Hydro-NM-Oxide, a
product of nanotechnology.
11
How It Works
NanoParticle
Conduction
Knudsen Effect
Thermal conduction through the solid portion of
the particle is hindered by the tiny size of the
connections (tunnels). Thermal transfer occurs
through a complicated maze and the gas molecules
within the matrix experience the Knudsen Effect,
and the exchange of energy is virtually
eliminated.
The energy of the ball bounced through the
tunnel is decreased sooner than the energy of the
ball bounced outside the tunnel
The insulating component of Nansulate is
Hydro-NM-Oxide, a product of nanotechnology. The
particles thermal conductivity is a very low
0.017 W/mK, which means it is not a good
conductor of thermal energy, and that in turn
means it is an excellent insulator.
12
Energy Savings Testing
Two identical wooden boxes were furnished with
incandescent lamps and thermocouples at the
same positions inside the boxes. One box was
coated with 3 coats of Nansulate GP on all
surfaces inside and outside. At an ambient
temperature of 13C (55F), both heating elements
were switched on and temperatures were noted
against time.
40C (104F) was reached in 45 minutes by the
coated box, 85 minutes by the uncoated. The
uncoated box could not reach 42C (108F)
13
2. Corrosion Prevention
Nansulate offers the unique combination of
corrosion prevention and insulation combined into
a single coating. Nansulate solves the age-old
problem of CUI (corrosion under Insulation),
while offering a translucent finish that allows
for ultrasound and visual inspections without
need for removal. Nansulate has passed the
rigorous GM9540P Accelerated Corrosion Test at 24
cycles.
14
GM 9540P Accelerated Corrosion Test
The GM9540P has been adopted as the leading
environmental corrosion test that is used
universally by the Military, Auto and Heavy
Process Industries because it replicates many of
the worst-case environments. The cyclic process
refers to the repeated changes in test
conditions, ideally to replicate the changing
environments where the product will be used.
Passing 8 cycles of the test is considered
standard for an anti-corrosive coating.
24 Cycles passed, No red rust present
15
3. Mould Resistance
Nansulate is resistant to existing mold growth as
well as resistant to new mould growth. Nansulate
does not contain any potentially harmful
anti-fungal agents or mouldicides. It is
water-based and non-toxic. Nansulate provides a
comprehensive solution for building owners who
want to protect their assets from mould growth,
and for commercial homebuilders who wish to offer
a mould resistant solution to their customers.
16
Mould Resistance Testing
EMSL Analytical, Inc., one of the nation's
leading testing laboratories, compared mould
growth on wooden surfaces coated with Nansulate
HomeProtect to surfaces with no coating. Both
were exposed to spore-producing bacteria,
including Pencillium funiculosum, Aspergillus
niger, Aureobasidium pullulans, Chaetomium
globosum, and Trichoderma virens. After four
weeks, Nansulate HomeProtect exhibited zero or
minimal mould growths, whereas the uncoated
surfaces showed extreme to 100 percent mould
coverage. The testing was conducted by EMSL
Analytical, Inc., an AIHA accredited laboratory,
and conformed to guidelines defined by the
American Society for Testing and Materials in
ASTM D 5590, "Standard Test Method for
Determining the Resistance of Paint Films and
Related Coatings to Fungal Defacement by
Accelerated Four-Week Agar Plate Assay," and ASTM
G21, "Standard Practice for Determining
Resistance of Synthetic Polymeric Materials to
Fungi."

Customer Feedback
I applied four coats of Nansulate on the copper
pipe coming out of our tankless water heater. Two
months after the application, the pipe feels warm
instead of hot to the touch when we run the
water. It also cuts the time for warm water to
get to a faucet if we have run it recently,
because water stays warm in the pipes longer than
before. I also applied Nansulate to the hot air
ducts that come out of our furnace. Our furnace
room is vented to the outside, so warmth in the
ducts would escape into the room between each
furnace run, and the fan would blow the cold air
into the house every time the furnace came on.
Two months after applying Nansulate GP to the
ducts, there is no initial blast of cold air from
the vents when the furnace kicks on, unless the
system has not run for several hours. Application
in this project was easy and appears to be

Customer Feedback
"We used Nansulate paint last year to paint a 5m³
heated stainless steel tank which is positioned
outdoors at a company in Cobden. This tank is
used for melting butterfat. We achieved a
measurable difference in the contents of this
tank ... The outside of the tank was previously
too hot to touch. With three coats of Nansulate
applied, the touch was now warm to touch and
there was a visual improvement to the melting
efficiency of the product inside. We are very
happy with the performance of Nansulate and
intend on using it to paint future
tanks."Regards,David MorabitoProject
