School Day
  • Please be sure your child is at school every day
    unless he/she is sick. Good attendance is
    crucial.
  • School Day-820 a.m.302 p.m.
  • TEP(attendance)--10 days or less (after this
    absences will require a doctors excuse) or 3
    unexcused days
  • Please send excuses the first day after an
    absence

Transportation
  • Please inform Mrs. Gahr of any changes in your
    childs transportation method. This should be
    done in writing. Please only call the school
    office in case of emergency.
  • I will NOT dismiss your child to anyone without
    notification from the parent.
  • Please complete attached bus tag and send it with
    your child on the first day of school.

Lunch
  • Lunch money must be sent in the mornings in an
    envelope preferably on Mondays.
  • Fill out free/reduced lunch paperwork as soon as
    possible.
  • Please go over lunch choices with your child in
    the beginning of the year so they will know what
    they are eating when they get to school.
  • Cost--1.55 lunch

Breakfast
  • Served daily
  • Money can be placed in the same envelope with
    lunch money
  • Cost-- .75
  • Eaten in classroom
  • PLEASE DO NOT send in any food from home for your
    child to eat at breakfast. This is not permitted.

Specials
  • Specials schedule listed below
  • Please make sure library books are returned on
    Wednesday. Behavior points will be taken when
    books are not returned.
  • On Physical Education days please make sure your
    child is wearing tennis shoes. Failure to do so
    will result in the loss of gym class for that
    day.
  • Monday Phys. Ed. 145-220
  • Tuesday Music 910-950
  • Wednesday Library 1215-105
  • Thursday Phys. Ed. 1000-1030
  • Friday Art 1210-1250

Discipline
  • Points system for Utica School
  • One warning given then point taken
  • 6 points a day possible
  • Behavior reports sent home on Mondays
  • Star behavior board used to help students see
    their behavior choices in action.

Homework
  • School folders sent home nightly
  • Homework folders sent home a few nights a week
    with a short practice page.
  • Please have your child use pencils and not pens
    on homework.
  • To be returned the next day.
  • Word lists and work rings will also be sent home
    for practice.
  • Reading books will be sent for homework later in
    the year.

Dress Code
  • No logos/pictures
  • Shorts/skirts must be fingertip length
  • Pants must have no more than 4 pockets
  • Shirts must have a collar or jewell neck. No
    T-shirts.
  • No tank tops
  • No hats or bandanas

Academic Expectations
  • Recognizing and writing first and last name
  • Shapes
  • Colors
  • Numbers (recognizing and counting)
  • Learning the letters of the alphabet and their
    sounds
  • Sounding out and reading words
  • Learning basic sight words
  • Writing and applying sounds in journals (kid
    writing)
  • Phonemic awareness (awareness of sounds, rhyming,
    etc.)

Social/Emotional Expecations
  • Work independently
  • Be responsible for his/her materials
  • Play well with others
  • Take turns
  • Use self-control over voice and emotions
  • Follow rules
  • Participate in activities

Conclusion
  • You are your childs first teacher. The more
    experiences your child has with reading and
    writing the more successful he/she will be in
    Kindergarten. It takes you and I working
    together to help your child grow. Thank you in
    advance for your support. Kindergarten is a fun
    and exciting experience and I am looking forward
    to another wonderful year!!!
