Mission Statement
  • Our mission is to recruit, support, and
    encourage, talented disadvantaged high school
    students to pursue professional and/or terminal
    degrees in Chemistry, Chemistry-related science
    disciplines, or the sciences, by providing the
    most comprehensive scientific research internship
    experience possible. We define disadvantaged as
  • students from households with a low- family
    income as defined by the ACS, or
  • students from minorities historically
    underrepresented in Chemistry and
    Chemistry-related fields (African-Americans,
    Hispanic and Native Americans), or
  • first generation of the household to attend
    college, or
  • students from low-performing schools or
    low-performing school systems

Program Effectiveness and Outcomes
  • Approximately 100 students (70 during the last
    five years)
  • 91 attend college (100 during last five years)
  • 82 majored in SMET (during last five years)
  • 67 majored in Chemistry or
  • Chemistry-related field (during last five
    years)
  • 77 on full or partial scholarships(last five
    years)
  • 36 National Awards in Science
  • 9 African-American Siemens Westinghouse
    Semi-Finalists
  • 2 Sigma Xi National First Place
  • 1 Phi Beta Kappa
  • 12 or more Meyerhoff Scholars
  • 8 in Doctoral programs (2x in next three years)
