2007 Hurricane Forecast
  • Leading storm forecaster, William Gray, predicts
    very active Atlantic hurricane season.
  • 17 named storms predicted.
  • 5 of them predicted to be major hurricanes with
    sustained winds of 111 m.p.h. or greater.
  • The probability of a major hurricane making
    landfall on the U.S. coast this year is 74,
    compared with the average of 52 over the past
    century.

DAMAGE FORECASTING

    VDOT on evacuation plans and status

    evacuations and disaster response

  • Survey crews man debris sites when activated,
    inspectors follow up later, replaced by
    contractor PBSJ
  • Critical to document amount and type of debris
    log sheets available
  • Separation of debris types on debris site is
    critical site plans are available
  • Separate construction debris, woody debris,
    rubbish, hazardous materials

ENVIRONMENTAL COORDINATION
  • Environmental specialists coordinate with DEQ on
    opening of debris sites
  • Monitor operations of debris sites to include
    before, during and after photography and site
    assessments
