GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION
Tenerife is situated about 300 kilometres from
African continent and about 1.300 kilometres from
the European continental area. The surface is
2.034 square kilometres and it is one of the
bigest Canary Islands.
Tenerife is composed by thirty-one
municipalities, nine of them are part of
Mancomunidad of North Tenerife, which is situated
in that part of the island. The localities which
involves are Buenavista del Norte, Garachico,
El Tanque, Icod de los Vinos, Los Realejos,
Puerto de la Cruz, Santa Úrsula, La Victoria and
La Matanza de Acentejo. On the other hand the
institution counts with the collaboration of six
other localities from other part of the island .
4
GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION
The association of municipalities intervention
area covers 337 square kilometres and 129.078
inhabitants. The Tenerife Island has a tourist
character. The good environmental conditions and
the rich cultural array are sufficient reasons
for a traditional tourism demand and also
alternative. The natural means is very rich in
endemic plants and autochthonous fauna.
Protection constitutes an indispensable line to
obtain a sustainable development.
5
THE INSTITUTION MANNORTE Since the constitution
in 1993 of the association of municipalities
Mancomunidad of North Tenerife, this institution
has been taking care to cover the existing needs
in this zone of the island which by its nature
escape from competences of each municipality.
The association work promoting collective
initiatives that in a autonomous way they would
be very difficult to accomplish by each Town
Hall.We are an association with a clear idea
unite efforts to solve common problems and to
reduce costs at the time of carrying out works
and services of communal interest. It is
indubitable that the foundation of this
association has created solidarity bonds between
towns. We try to reinforce them day-to-day and we
work in order to obtain a sustainable progress
for the north of the island of Tenerife.

GENERAL CONCLUTIONS

WINENET A strategic intelligence pilot Platform
for wine, designed by the Consortium
Mancomunidad of North Tenerife.
13
Project description The aim of the current
Project is to design a portal offering users a
wide range of services.
The portal is conceived for the purpose of
providing a working tool to assist in handling
information, making it available in a rapid and
intuitive manner. Hence, it is intended to reach
all net users regardless of their experience in
the field. It is made up of two parts one
public - where all users shall have unrestricted
access - and another private - with restricted
access allowed only to users who have a password
and a priori authorisation.

Project technology Given the scope and variety of
the information to be provided, we have opted for
technology that allows a Web page as
straightforward as possible, with speedy access
to information, and maximum compatibility with
currently existing Internet browse tools and
search engines. Hence, we opted for design of
web pages directly in HTML format for contents
that will remain unchanged, such as contact
details, descriptions of consortium boroughs,
etc. HTML allows downloading pages more rapidly
using current browsing tools and Web search
engines. For contents that will require
updating, the language to be used is PHP together
with the MySQL database manager, for storage of
Portal information. This configuration provides
added speed and improved search
capability Macromedia Flash technology will be
applied for creating the animations featuring in
the introduction and to render the Portal more
attractive.
16

Actions regarding promotion and outreach related
to the STRATINC projects strategic intelligence
Platform.
21
1) Brief Description Below is outlined the tasks
of design, lay-out, printing and distribution of
the magazine, which together with the portal,
will serve to raise public awareness on this
initiative
22
2) Characteristics and format The magazine will
be 200 x 240 mm in size (folded), with a total of
eight pages, including cover and back page,
printed in colour (CMYK), or using four colours
at most, on 170 gram shinny coated paper.
23
3) Design and lay-out The concept of the
magazine stems from the idea of adapting the
Portals image to the printed publication, and to
adjust the publications format as described
above. It will contain the information provided
by the Consortium.
24
4) Printing-distribution 3000 copies will be
printed every three months for each issue of the
magazine. Of those, 500 will be distributed via
a mailing list that includes all the postal
addresses supplied by the Consortium, for
recipients within Spain. The remainder (2500)
will be delivered to the Consortium.
