  • The Institute assesses the qualifications of all
    teachers who are
  • seeking employment in NSW.
  • The Institute will issue each qualified teacher
    with a Statement of
  • Eligibility for Accreditation in NSW.
  • Students in their final year of a teacher
    education program may
  • apply to the Institute for their Statement of
    Eligibility.
  • Students can apply for a statement prior to
    applying for
  • employment.

Submit an application to the Institute
  • Log on to the Institutes website at
    www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au
  • and create an account with the Institute.
  • Complete the application for a Statement of
    Eligibility online and
  • forward certified copies of your
    qualifications to
  • NSW Institute of Teachers
  • PO Box A976

  • assess your qualifications
  • advise you on your eligibility for accreditation
    in NSW
  • advise you on what subjects you will be approved
    to teach in
  • NSW public schools
  • forward a copy of this advice to NSW Department
    of Education
  • and Training along with and any requirement to
    undertake the
  • Professional English Assessment for Teachers
    (PEAT)

3. Send supporting documentation
  • To complete your application to teach all
    required forms must be posted using the reply
    paid envelope provided in your information
    booklet.
  • Your application will not be processed until
    these documents are received.
  • To facilitate processing
  • use the checklist to ensure you have gathered all
    required documents
  • glue your photograph securely on the cover page
  • do not staple your documents.
  • Documents sent to us will not be returned.

4. Book and attend a GRP interview
  • After you have submitted your application, you
    need to book your GRP interview.
  • Interviews must be booked online by retrieving
    your application from www.teach.nsw.edu.au/apply
  • Remember Graduates who need an Aboriginal
    Initiative interview must email a request to us
    at grp_at_det.nsw.edu.au
  • Interviews are between June and September. View
    the schedule at www.teach.nsw.edu.au/grp

4. Attend a GRP interview
  • When you attend your interview you must take
  • your completed supporting statement which you
    have downloaded from the GRP website
  • certified copies of all professional experience
    reports
  • photographic proof of your identity - a current
    drivers licence or a passport would be suitable.

5. Apply for an interim casual approval
  • You will be eligible for an interim casual
    approval if you
  • have obtained eligibility for initial teacher
    accreditation from the NSW Institute of Teachers
  • have satisfied all departmental recruitment
    requirements including probity checks
  • have successfully completed all requirements of
    your teacher education program to date
  • have successfully completed the professional
    experience component (including any internship)
    of your teacher education program
  • are not aware of any reason why you will not be
    awarded a recognised teacher education
    qualification at the completion of the current
    semester of study
  • have demonstrated satisfactory English language
    skills.
