The Communities

• A community is a group or categories of people or
  entities with shared interests, values, culture,
  norms, leadership, intents, beliefs, resources,
  infrastructure, preferences, needs, risks and
  similar conditions that shapes its identity and
  determines its cohesion
• Community versus companies is extremely complex
  but
• Empowerment is a non negotiable and is
  sacrosant therefore
• Need to define how to empower communities and
• Make provision for the empowerment of the
  communities
• Passion, commitment, humility and knowledge

Bear in mind

• Communities are complex (they are not homogenous)
• Empowerment is a process riddled with hurdles
• Communities are multi-disadvantaged

• Do not nanny or paternalise them, because this
• Develops a dependency syndrome
• Entitlement syndrome
• Nothing for them without them
