Countys social indices. Hawaii County is the
most ethnically and culturally diverse county in
the United States, and is dramatically different
from the other counties in the State

• highest unemployment rate and highest
  percentage of persons in poverty
• Lowest per capita income and lowest median
  household income
• highest percentage of ice use
• increased rate of domestic violence
• majority of our island school population are
  students from families near the poverty level
• 58 percent of UH Hilo students, the highest
  percentage in the UH system, receive federal
  financial aid
