Annual Training Requirements

ANNUAL TRAINING
  • Introduction
  • Annual training is a series of annual events that
    must be
  • completed by the Marines including SNCOS and
    Officers.
  • This presentation will go over the the annual
    training
  • Requirements, how to schedule the Marines in an
efficient manner for these requirements, and the
proper points of contact for scheduling and any
    questions that arise.

3
ANNUAL TRAINING
  • ANNUAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
  • Rifle Range
  • Pistol Range (SNCOS/Officers only unless MOS
requires qualification. This mainly applies to
    Motor Transport and Engineer Marines.
  • Physical Fitness Test
  • Gas Chamber
  • Basic Skills Test (Officers not Required to take)
  • Swim Qualification

4
ANNUAL TRAINING
  • RIFLE RANGE
  • This is a two week evolution with the first week
being the snap-in period where for one hour in
the morning and one hour in the afternoon it is
spent practicing technique and proper firing
positions. The second week is called
qualification week where the Marines qualify with
their M16A2 service rifle at distances of 200
yards, 300 yards, and 500 yards and can qualify
either as a Marksman, Sharpshooter, or Expert.
Marines are only allowed to qualify once every
fiscal year so it is vital to let them know that
failing the range can adversely effect your
    career.

5
ANNUAL TRAINING
  • Pistol Range
  • A three day evolution where SNCOS and Officers
fire at targets at 7 yards, 15 yards and 25
yards. Marines again are rated on a point scale
and can qualify as a marksman, sharpshooter and
    expert
  • Marines are only allowed to qualify once every
fiscal year so it is imperative that they do not
fail the range and the consequences if they do
    not qualify.

6
ANNUAL TRAINING
  • Physical Fitness Test
  • This is done on a semiannual period meaning once
every 6 months a physical fitness test must be
completed. The physical fitness test or PFT
consists of a 3 mile run, crunches and either
pull-ups for men or dead-hang on the pull-up bar
for females. There is a minimum and maximum
score for each event with a 300 the highest score
a Marine can get, and a 130 as the lowest they
can receive without failing. These are also
grouped by age with individuals older than 28 and
40 allowed to run a slower time and still get a
    perfect score on the test.

7
ANNUAL TRAINING
  • Gas Chamber
  • A calendar year event that requires attendance
only once a year. This is a nontested event and
is designed to test your gas mask and your skills
inside a gas chamber filled with CS gas.
  • Battle Skills Training Test
  • Also a calendar year event that while a tested
event has no bearing on promotion and career
progression. It consists of 150 questions about
Marine Corps knowledge and history and the test
taker is given 3 hours to take the exam.

8
ANNUAL TRAINING
  • Swim Qualification
  • There are 6 levels of swim qualification. There
    is in order CWS4, CWS3, CWS2, CWS1, WSQ (Water
Safety Qualified, and MCWIS (Marine Corps Water
Instructor Safety). CWS4 is the basic
requirement for Marines and with this
qualification the Marines are qualified for one
year. With CWS3 they are qualified for two
years, CWS2 3 years, CWS1 four years, WSQ five
years and MCWIS for 10 years. Officers must have
at a minimum a CWS2 qualification in order to
    stay in the Marine Corps.

9
SCHEDULING
  • Scheduling
  • This must be done primarily through your company
operations section. Each operations section will
have a list of dates for training events such as
rifle range, pistol range, gas chamber and swim
qualification. The physical fitness test can be
monitored by a SNCO or Officer and can be done at
the platoon level. It is vital to look at the
dates provided and schedule all Marines including
yourself ahead of time in order to secure a quota
    and complete the training requirements.

10
POINTS OF CONTACT
  • Points of Contact in the Company and Battalion
  • The points of contact for help and to schedule
resides primarily in your company operations
section who will be able to answer and schedule
most of your annual training. However the main
point of contact is the Battalion S-3 Training
section which has overall responsibility of
scheduling the events, dictating how many quotas
each company has for each event, and for planning
the logistics required for each event as needed.
