Program Goals

• To help staff members become familiar with the
  breadth of academic endeavors in the Department
  of University Housing
• To provide insight into the type of student
  attending the University of Georgia and living in
  University Housing
• To help staff members become familiar with
  Department and campus resources

Who are our students?

• 62 female 38 male
• Fall 2008 freshman total 4,779
• 93.4 retention rate from freshman to sophomore
  year (2007 data)
• 79.7 graduate in 6 yrs. (2007 data)

Brumby Buddies

• The goal of Brumby Buddies is to foster greater
  interaction among students, staff, and faculty
  members outside of the classroom
• They invite female faculty and staff members to
  interact with students on various neighborhoods
  through floor meetings, programs, etc.

Creswell G.O.L.D.

• Creswell G.O.L.D., Generating Opportunities for
  Leadership Development is designed to offer
  leadership training to Creswell residents through
  participation in
• Bi-weekly leadership programs, service-learning
  opportunities and mentoring with UGA Faculty,
  Staff and upper division student leaders
• Students will develop and demonstrate their own
  leadership skills in organizations, groups, and
  communities

Creswell SMARTEES

• Starting Meaningful Academic Relationships To
  Enhance Every Students success or SMARTEES is
  comprised of three components increased
  faculty/staff/student interaction, recognition of
  academic achievement and continual reinforcement
  of academic resources.
• Major Mondays
• SMARTEES Party Newsletter
• End of the year Faculty Staff Appreciation
• Study Groups throughout the year

Hill Community Study Money

• Study Money program is to reward students for
  studying and engaging in academic pursuits.
• Instant recognition by hall staff through
  offering study money when they catch the
  student in academically purposeful activities.
• Further recognition at the end of the semester in
  the form of larger rewards occurs through a
  Silent Auction.

Russell Experience

• Russell Experience will focus on helping students
  assimilate into the University culture and social
  environment, as well as focusing on career
  endeavors.
• Student Success Series -programs will focus on
  study skills, time management, career
  development, etc.
• Out to Lunch -speakers will be invited to speak
  about their profession or field of study during
  the lunch hour.
• Russell Book Club Students will read a
  designated book and then meet to discuss the book
  with a faculty or staff member
• Last Lecture -Students nominate their favorite
  professor each semester and ask them to give a
  lecture as if it were the last lecture of their
  career.

Alumni Visions

• Alumni Visions is designed to provide tools and
  resources to ECV students for their transition to
  life beyond college.
• Work with Career Center to provide resume
  building workshops and mock interviews.
• Provide workshops on graduate school
  applications.
• Workshops on conducting research at graduate and
  undergraduate levels.
• Invite alumni back to campus to talk about their
  professional lives.
• Workshop on how to live balanced lives.

• Franklin College of Arts and Sciences
  Advising Centers in Brumby, Creswell
• and Russell Halls
• Partnership between Housing and Franklin College
  of Arts Sciences
• Students with majors in the Franklin College of
  Arts Sciences that live in Brumby, Creswell and
  Russell halls will receive class advisement in
  the Advising Center located in each high-rise
  building.

• Franklin Residential College
• Partnership between Housing and Franklin College
  of Arts Sciences is housed in Rutherford Hall.
• Franklin College of Arts Sciences students live
  together and plan events and programs.
• Dr. Doug Toma, the FRC Dean lives in Rutherford
  Hall with his family Linda and Jack.
• FRC Advisor office located in Rutherford.

• French Spanish Language Communities
• Partnership with Housing and Romance Languages
• Located in Mary-Lyndon Hall
• Participants must be proficient in either French
  or Spanish.
• While talking with hall mates, participants agree
  to speak only in French or Spanish.
• Graduate TAs in French and Spanish live in
  Mary-Lyndon with the students.

• First year Honors student may choose to live in
  the Honors Magnet
• Programming geared to Honors students are offered
  in Myers Hall

  Satellite Office
• Partnership between Housing and the Division of
  Academic Enhancement
• Located in Brumby Hall
• Coordinates free tutoring in Brumby, Creswell and
  Russell for students in Writing, Chemistry and
  Math.
• Will conduct programs for staff members on a
  variety of topics (Ex. time management, how to
  study more effectively and test taking)
• Open to all students, not just students living in
  the residence halls

• Freshman College Summer Experience (FCSE)
• Partnership with Housing and the Division of
  Academic Enhancement
• Located in Russell Hall
• Allows first year students to begin their college
  careers in the summer term.
• Classes are geared to aid the students in their

• Wireless study environment that is open to all

• Visiting Scholars stay in the Brumby apartment in
  exchange for presenting a program for residents

• Partnership with Housing and Army ROTC
• Army ROTC students reside in two super suites in
  Reed Hall

  Assignments Office work together to accommodate
  students participating in the Study Abroad
  Program and international students studying at
  UGA
• Early release from housing contracts if the
  student will be studying abroad
• Housing spaces are reserved for international

• Developed in partnership with the Vice-President
  for Instruction Office
• Housed in Creswell Hall
• Each Learning Community (LC) will include 20
  students, 1 Peer Advisor and 1 Lead Instructor

  semester and 1 class spring term

• One World Multicultural Residential Community
• The One World Multicultural Community is a
  residentially-based program designed to provide
  experiential opportunities for students to
  develop and appreciate the value of
  multiculturalism.
• Monthly dinners with invited speaker to present
  and discuss a selected topic
• Monthly organizational meetings for committee
  work and student discussions.
• Attend and sponsor events across campus.

• Spanish Immersion Program
• Provide an opportunity for intensive language
  experience.
• Students live with the Spanish Language faculty
  and participate in a variety of experiences
  speaking only Spanish.
• Sponsored only during summer session II.

  students.
• We are constantly evaluating our programs and
  services to best match the needs of the students.
