What Is a D.B.Q. ?
  • D.B.Q. stands for Document Based Question.
  • This means that they are going to give you
    documents and a question and you will need to use
    the documents in answering the question.

What is a Think Sheet (note cards)?
  • The think sheet is a way for you to organize your
    thoughts so that you may better answer the
    task(s) or question(s).
  • You must first be able to recognize the number of
    parts (questions) in the task.

A Closer Look
A
  • You write Doc so you know what document you are
    referring to.
  • line A is only drawn if there is more than one
    task. You could have only one task then there
    is no need for line A. You could also have more
    than two tasks then you would need more lines
    (and a bigger box)

Does the Document Answer Both Tasks?
  • Some documents might help answer both tasks. Then
    you would fill in answers in the box for the task
    that it answers.
  • If the document just answers one task (part),
    then put an x through the part that it does not
    answer.

When Do I Know If I Have Written Enough
Information?
  • You need to have enough information in order to
    be able to write at least two quality sentences
    about each Document.
  • A quality sentence must refer to the document in
    some way (Doc.___) and use the document to answer
    the task or tasks.

More About P.L.K.
  • P.L.K. is the facts and important information
    about the topic that can not be found in the
    document.
  • P.L.K. is something that a teacher will read and
    be happy that the student remembered such
    information or facts.
  • This should also be cited (P.L.K.).

How many documents should I use?
  • Use the Formula Luke!
  • ½ 1 number of documents needed.
  • You may use more, but you can not use less.

How Do I Know If I Have Used a Document Correctly?
  • Follow this check list
  • 1) Did I refer to something directly in the
    document (a fact, a quote, a description of that
    doc.)
  • 2) Did I use this information to answer the
    task(s)
  • 3) Did I cite the document example (Doc 1).

What Should I Include in My Essay?
  • Intro (Historical context)
  • Answers the Task(s). One paragraph for each part
    of the task (question)
  • Conclusion (should sound like the historical
    context in your own words, except it answers
    the question (task) briefly.

Things to Look Out for!
  • Make sure you answer the entire task not just
    part of it.
  • Make sure you referred directly to the documents
    (facts).
  • Make sure you use enough documents.
  • Make sure you use outside information P.L.K.
  • Cite your documents.
