Rotary Club Fort Worth South
  • What are members are saying about why they are
    involved in Rotary

2
What our members say
Because I love Fort Worth so much, I wanted to be
a part of a civic organization to give back how
and where I can.  Also, a wonderful surprise was
the talk about polio and how collectively and
internationally one organization can do so much.
I am also learning about Fort Worth (The Kimbell)
and subjects (citizens organization) I would
never had the opportunity to hear.

Opportunities for Service
Having the opportunity to participate in
something that goes on after my lifetime, in
essence leaving the world a little better than it
was before me. The opportunity to go to Venice
and meet the Rotarians there at 700 PM on
Tuesday at the same time that our club was
meeting in Fort Worth, seated next to a Count
whose family had owned a villa on the Grand Canal
for over 300 years- they too would like to see
the end of polio.

In Peoples Lives
I am involved in Rotary because I think Rotary
makes a difference in peoples lives, both at
home and around the world. Rotary allows me to
form friendships with like-minded people whom
otherwise I probably would never meet or get to
know.

Friends
I enjoy coming to Rotary for my weekly visit with
old friends and catch up on what is going on in
the World.  At my age I do not have many
activities.

Joining Forces
I joined Rotary because community service is
important to me, and the club provides the
flexibility to contribute to a number of
different service projects in a variety of
ways.  As members of Rotary, we join forces
to strengthen our giving power, and extend our
reach into the world community. It's a joy
sharing the fellowship of others who, regardless
of background, politics, or religion, share these
same values.

A Change

I JOINED ORIGINALLY TO DIVERSIFY MY CONTACTS....I
HAD LIVED IN A MEDICALCOMMUNITY ATMOSPHERE FOR
SOME SIX YEARS WITH RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORS WHO
WERE ANATOMY PROFESSORS, HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATORS,
SURGICAL RESIDENTS, PEDIATRICS PROFESSORS,
NURSES, MEDICAL INSTRUCTORS, STUDENTS, ETC.  I
NEEDED A CHANGE!  NOW, AND FOR MANY YEARS, IT IS
"SERVICE ABOVE SELF".

Making a Difference
I am involved in Rotary for the fellowship, the
friendships made in our club and others, the
ability to go nearly anywhere in the world,
attend meetings and are always welcome and
lastly, but most important the ability to make a
difference in the World through various projects
such as Polio Plus.

Every Minute
I am in Rotary because I saw first hand the great
works that it does internationally, nationally,
and locally.  Joe Serrano asked me to join 9
years ago, and I have loved every minute of my
involvement.

Ideal of Service
I was sponsored to join club by an individual who
thought my belonging would expose me to a greater
community of businessmen. This reasoning is still
true today as by making up around the City, one
comes in contact with business and professional
men and women who accepted the ideal of service
as a way to achieve success in personal, business
and community lifeA great way to train community
leaders.

Rotarians, not just members
I went from being a member of Rotary to being a
Rotarian when Grant Begley asked me to help host
a Group Study Exchange Team from Great Britain in
1988 for a week.  It happened to be the first all
female GSE team, and the worst time of year for
me.  Since then, Ive helped with GSE Teams from
India, Denmark, South Africa South Korea.  In
1986 Charlie Nichols asked me, a new member
of FWS, to chair the Social Committee and plan an
outdoor party at his house among other events.
By them asking and me saying yes I developed
great friendships and provided service to
Rotary.  I have found some outstanding
mentors, idols and friends among the Rotarians I
have met in our club.

Life savers
Working with Police and Fire awards that benefit
the FWFD paramedics as they have saved my life on
one occasion. Working with Chuck Kurtzman on
cleaning up the blood supply. Chuck's work with
Carter Bloodcare helped keep me alive at Harris
Hospital in 2006, during pancreatic cancer
surgery.

Active Programs
To me Rotary means active programs dedicated to
support the local community through the local
foundation, and international programs through
the Rotary Foundation and other  group functions.
Rotary membership means more than just raising
money to support the greater community it means
direct involvement in managing programs as well
as participating in the work of the programs.

Serve Others
I am a member for fellowship and most
importantly, a great weekly reminder to serve
others!

Focus on Service
I'm involved in a number of business-oriented
groups locally and nationally, many of which also
have programs that support community efforts.
However, I wanted to be involved in a group where
the primary focus was service rather than What's
in it for me? I believe Rotary is the finest
example of such an organization and I'm proud to
be a Rotarian.
