The use of an acousto-optic tunable filter
coupled to infrared (IR) fibers for spectroscopy

producing the PlastiScan commercially for the
past eight years. The sales have enabled the
inform to keep eleven individuals employed. The
technology has also enabled the firm to establish
multiple domestic and international distributors
and partners. Sales realized from the most
recent fiscal year have totaled over two million
dollars.
PlastiScan
Government/Science Applications The
Department of Energy and the army are currently
utilizing Infrared Fiber Systems, PlastiScan for
the gas analysis of toxic waste in environmental
clean-ups and the analysis of liquid fuels. The
thiokol corporation is also using the PlastiScan
to determine monitor Rocket engine parts for oil
contamination.
Commercialization Infrared systems has also
received related funding from the department
of Energy and the National Institute of Health.
The purpose of these additional funds is develop
Spin-off products for the areas of toxic-waste
detection and medical diagnostics. The PlastiScan
is being utilized in a variety of markets in the
private sector. These areas including
Pharmaceutical tablet analysis, Air Pollution
Detection and Liquid Fuel analysis. the company
also believes that certain opportunities exist in
the Medical Diagnostic, Chemical Processing, Food
Processing, and Gas Oil Refineries.
