Disasters
  • Mozambique was stripped of its natural resources
    and forced to sell cash crops such as cotton and
    rice
  • In 1975 Mozambique overthrew the Portuguese to
    become independent
  • Since then Mozambique has suffered from famine,
    drought, civil war and bankruptcy
  • Many children were forced to fight in the civil
    war in 1992 and there is still the problems of
    landmines

Problems
  • Mozambique is one of the poorest countries in the
    world
  • Zambezia province in Mozambique has the most
    people living there but also has the lowest
    standard of living, the lowest life expectancy
    and lowest school enrolment

  • 68 of teachers lack formal teacher training
  • Less than half as many girls as boys attend
