How did this all Start
  • 1988
  • The concept was initiated by PAAZAB individual
    membership.
  • PAAZAB is primary focus is on Organisations Zoo
    and Aquaria and not focused on individuals thus
    the concept of establishing an association for
    individual members working with animals in
    captivity and serving their needs.

How did this all Start
  • 2004
  • At PAAZAB Conference, Dominic Moss asked about
    zoo keepers and there interests. He was then
    tasked to look at such a concept.
  • 2005
  • At PAAZAB Conference, Robynn Ingle-Moller was
    also approached with the same concept.
  • 27 September - Inaugural Meeting at the NZG.
  • Attended by 45 keepers (Zambia to Cape)
  • Election of a task team to set up the foundation
    for the Association.

  • Member -
  • A person, without voting rights, who has an
    interest in the ethical, care and welfare of
    animals, who underwrites to uphold support the
    interests and core values of the AKAA.
  • Professional Member
  • A person, with voting rights, who is employed by
    a legally recognized organization or institution
    who care for animals on a daily bases.
  • Patron Member
  • An Individual, Organization, Institution or
    association, without voting rights, who
    underwrites to uphold support the interests and
    core values of the AKAA

Membership - 2007
  • AKAA Regent
  • A Person who is appointed by the management
    committee to oversee the functioning of the
    Association.
  • A Honor bestowed on a member or an individual,
    with voting rights of caution for the protection
    of the Association.
  • This is an individual who has displayed
    commitment, mentorship and who has participated
    within the association and its affairs, aimed at
    developing, promoting and enhancing the
    association and its members and who underwrites
    to uphold and support the interests, mission and
    core values of the AKAA.
  • This membership is a life time membership
    excepted from annual membership fees.
  • (NOTE - The Oxford definition a person
    appointed to administer a state because the
    monarch is a minor or is absent or incapacitated
    e.g. acting as a regent Prince Regent)

2006 - ICZ
  • ICZ Conference in Australia
  • Presentation about the establishment of the AKAA.
  • A Special Meeting was held for the inclusion of
    the AKAA as a member of the ICZ.
  • ICZ Accepted the AKAA and offered two seats on
    the ICZ committee.
  • Dominc Moss and Robyn Greyling where nominated to
    represent the AKAA at ICZ.

    Flight, conference fee and the Professional
    membership fee of Jimmy Awany from Uganda.
  • SRE Developments was the 1st patron of the AKAA
  • Adoption of the Constitution of the AKAA
  • Appointment of the First Management Committee.

  • Achievement of 100 members.
