An Early History of Flying Machines

• Since the earliest recorded history, man has
  strived to conquer the air - to defy gravity -
  and fly like the birds. These dreams go back as
  far as the great mythological characters of the
  Greeks and continue today.
• "Doing" is mankind's oldest method of learning.
  As we will see, the early pioneers of aviation
  worked with models to discover the principles of
  flight, just as we will do with our models.
