Introduction

• Specific environmental conditions and certain
  stimuli have been found to be linked to the
  aggressive patterns and behavior in male fancy
  guppies. Different pressures on individual fish
  of the same population of the same species show
  different reproductive behaviors and patterns.
  Aggressive behavior is most prominent in male
  fish of almost all species of fish. Males tend
  to be more competitive with other males over
  female fish, territories, and resources

Materials

• 2 male fancy guppies/1 feeder male and 1 female
  feeder guppy
• 2 one gallon aquariums
• Tropical fish flakes
• Net
• Light top for aquarium
• Rocks,plant, and tank decoration

Methods

• The purpose of this experiment is to study and
  better understand male guppy behaviors towards
  other male guppies, a female guppy and what
  conditions change their aggressive behaviors
  (such as amounts of light and food). Study the
  main behaviors of the male guppies over a course
  of 10 hours in the male guppy tank. Record which
  males are more aggressive and why. Record what
  affects their aggressiveness and what should be
  done about it to reduce the amounts of
  aggression.

My Test Results

• I noticed that When light is turned off all fish
  continue the same behaviors. The light does NOT
  affect guppy behaviors.
• Addition of food and female guppy heightens
  their aggressive behaviors towards one another.
• Male guppies really need more room than one
  gallon to be around other male guppies because of
  how territorially they really are.

Discussion/Conclusion

• After conducting my experiment and observing
  male guppy behaviors in an environment in which
  they grew up in, I can conclude that with all the
  information I obtained there is so much more I
  need to have done to fully understand male guppy
  aggressiveness. YES that is what I was observing
  for the past weekaggressiveness in guppies and
  what effects their behaviors and aggression. I
  tested 3 male guppies that grew up together and
  watched their behaviors when I added food, turned
  the light off and on and when I added a female
  guppy. I found that when left alone together the
  males are always chasing one another. I then
  found that when food was added they became more
  aggressive and would bite and posture at on
  another. When the female was added their
  aggressive, posturing, biting behaviors increased
  the most!
