More Facts about the Animals of the Rain Forest
  • Animals of the tropical rain forests have an
environment that stays hot all year around.

3
Life in the Top Layer in the Rain Forest
  • It is also called the Emergent or Top Layer.
  • This layer is considered the Penthouse layer,
    which is 120-150 ft. tall.
  • Many animals spend their lives in the trees and
    never descent to the ground.

4
The Emergent Layer of the Rain Forest
  • Some of the animals in the Emergent Layer or Top
Layer are the morpho butterfly, the hawk,
proboscis monkey, and the harpy eagle.

5
Morpho Butterfly
  • Facts about the butterfly

    of twigs, bark, and leaves.
  • They range in size from 10 to 20 in. long.
  • They differ in color.

9
The Umbrella or Canopy Layer of the Rainforest
  • This layer is a continuous layer of green and has
medium sized trees which form a solid roof.
  • Some of the animals in the Umbrella Layer are

10
Three-toed Sloth

  • The fruits and nuts of the upper and lower canopy
    furnish food for
  • Bats, gibbons, monkeys, squirrels, parrots, and

15
Different Animals Feed on the Leaves of the Trees.

  • Large birds and large snakes prey on the small
    animals.

17
Canopy Animals suited to the treetop life.
