2
  • Did you know a Blue Ringed Octopus has enough
poison to kill 26 humans in minutes?

3
Physical Characteristics
  • The blue ringed octopus is a colorful
Cephalopod. It has brown, tan or yellow skin,
though its rings arent always visible. Its rings
which are blue are only visible when its about
to attack. A Cephalopod has eight tentacles
attached to its head and a sharp beak. The
average blue ringed octopus weighs about 100
grams and grows to about 20 centimeters long.
Dont let its small size fool you--it is very
    venomous!

4
Habitat
  • The blue ringed octopus lives along the coast
of Australia and Japan. It lives in under rocks
or in coral pools. Preferably muddy areas. It
also lives in discarded bottles or under rocks
and places with lots of seaweed.

5
Feeding
  • The blue ringed octopus normally hunts at
night. It likes to eat small crabs or crustaceans
(like crayfish, hermit crabs, shrimp), and if it
can catch them it will eat fish. It catches its
by squirting venom into its prey.

6
Symptoms of a Blue Ringed Octopus Bite
  • Even though a blue ringed octopus bite doesnt
hurt, remember to watch out for the blue ringed
octopus, because if it bites you might die. Some
symptoms are nausea, headache, sweating, foggy
vision, you probably cant talk or swallow, later
you will be blind, and in minutes you will be
    paralyzed.

Interesting Facts
  • Did you know a blue ringed octopus warns you
before it bites? It is very deadly even though it
is only the size of a golf ball. Its immune to
its own poison. It also has 3 hearts. Its blood
is blue- isnt that cool? I wouldnt want to be
bit by a blue ringed octopus because there is no
    known antidote.

8
  • I learned a lot about the blue ringed octopus.
  • It is deadly!
  • I wont have to worry about being bitten in
Mexico (since it only lives in Japan and
    Australia)!
