Title: Presentation of D35 Seed Development Methodology

1
Presentation of D35Seed Development Methodology
  • Michal Smialek, Sebastian Lisek
  • Infovide S.A.

2
Process areas in ICONS methodology
3
Iterative lifecycle model
  • Projects consist of iterations that result in
system builds. Each iteration ends with iteration
    assessment.
  • Two types of iterations inception and
construction. Projects has a single inception
    iteration and several construction iterations.
  • The goal of inception iteration is to define the
system boundary. System boundary is defined by
means of a use-case and domain model.
  • The goal of construction iteration is to produce
a build design, construct, test and verify a set
    of use-cases assigned to iteration.

4
Process notation roles, artifacts, workflow
  • Role can be defined as named, specialized
behaviour participating in specific activities. A
single person or a group of persons may perform a
    role.
  • Artefact is a piece of information that is used
or produced by software development process. An
artefact can be a model, a description or
    software.
  • Workflow illustrates a sequence of activities
within particular iteration specified by the
methodology. Each type of iteration has its own
    workflow specified.

5
Roles in the ICONS SLCP
  • Functionality modeling business rule designer,
    functionality designer, user interface designer,
    use-case specifier
  • Knowledge engineering ontology engineer,
    knowledge editor, domain expert
  • Design architect, system designer
  • Implementation business rule implementer,
    programmer, system integrator
  • Testing test designer, tester
  • Deployment technical writer
  • Project management project manager.

6
Artifacts in the ICONS SLCP
  • Functionality modeling business rule (workflow)
    definition, use-case model, use-case scenario,
    use-case storyboard
  • Knowledge engineering ontology, information
    source description, knowledge base
  • Design logical architecture, component,
    interface, use-case realization, use-case
    iteration assignment
  • Implementation component, code, build
  • Testing test case, test result
  • Deployment user guide
  • Project management use-case iteration
    assessment, software development plan, iteration
    plan.

7
Inception iteration workflow
  • Single inception iteration go/no go decision.
  • Definition of scope and boundaries of the portal.
  • Design of the user interface.
  • Design of the system architecture.
  • Planning of development.
  • Does not produce a build.

8
Construction iteration workflow
  • Several (2-6) construction iterations 4-5 weeks
    long.
  • Several use-cases detailed and implemented.
  • Definition of the functional scope for iteration.
  • Implementation and evaluation of chosen
    functionality.

9
Collaboration diagrams in workflow definition
  • Shows roles that collaborate in a given area.
  • Shows artifacts produced, updated and used
    (studied) by roles.
  • Shows sequence of activities.

10
Further directions
  • Knowledge Management Process and Knowledge Life
    Cycle Process seed methodology
  • Analysis of existing methodologies
  • Definition of disciplines, workflow, roles,
    artifacts
  • Description of Knowledge Production, Knowledge
    Validation, Knowledge Integration, Knowledge Use
    (in business processes), KLC Management
  • Detailed methodology for all process areas
  • Notation for artifacts
  • Guidelines for workflow activities

11
Roles in the ICONS KLCP
  • Information Gatherer responsible for production
    of information packages
  • Knowledge Producer creates new knowledge
    subject to verification
  • Domain Expert verifies information gathered by
the gatherers, and knowledge produced by the
    producers
  • Knowledge Repository Administrator formats and
loads knowledge into repository making it
    available to the users
  • Knowledge User knowledgeable in all the tools
and mechanisms that make knowledge available

12
Artifacts in the ICONS KLCP
  • Information package homogenous information
converted into fixed form and packaged
  • Knowledge claim statement that concerns
particular problem within the domain followed by
    Knowledge claim assessment
  • Verified knowledge claim
  • Knowledge item product of the use of the
knowledge stored in the knowledge repository.
  • Metadata update change within the knowledge
metadata (ontology, map, index, graph, content
    schema repository)
  • Content update change within the knowledge
    repository contents

13
Workflow of the ICONS KLCP
  • Information Gatherer ? gathering of information ?
    information package
  • Knowledge Producer ? production of knowledge
    claim ? knowledge claim
  • Domain Expert ? assessment of knowledge claims ?
    knowledge claim assessment
  • Knowledge Engineer ? standardization of the
knowledge claim ? verified knowledge claim
  • Knowledge User ? use of the knowledge ? knowledge
    item
  • Knowledge Repository Administrator ? update of
the knowledge repository ? content update
